How good is the PSW1000

So... How good is the PSW1000 for $400?

I guess what I am getting at is the previous generation Polk Subs are known for not performing well at their price points. So, since the PSW1000 is going for $400 on ebay, just how good is it in the $400 price range?

If you were to choose an impulse buy on the $400 PSW1000 and really piss of your wife,or putting off a purchase for a while to buy a used SVS, or maybe even a even a Polk MicroPro sub what would you do? ...a.k.a. would the PSW1000 be enough of an incremental gain in performance over the Velo CHT-12 I have now (HT and 2-channel) to justify the $400 purchase?

IMHO, Polk subwoofers do not go down low.... it tapers off below 35Hz pretty quickly... So if you like really low bass, you are not going to find it on a Polk. Don't know about the newer stuff tho. But for $400, the PSW1000 is a sweet deal but I don't think it will better your Velodyne 12" sub... you really need to spend over $1000 to get a sub with really good, low bass...

Here's a thread with the usual garbage, but the one guy who owned the PSW1000 sounded pretty honest. A fine music sub, but bottoms like a bugger during LFE blockbusters. If you're an HT guy, then save for something better.

Hmmm... Thanks Ron. This would be for 75% HT...and I play movies loud. I'd probably destroy the sub. My velo hits hard down to 20ish, although with plenty of port noise and sloppyness. I've never bottomed it out though.

I'll stick with what I've got for now. Would love try to integrate a PSW1000 into my 2-channel system upstairs for the hell of it, but that ADCOM has so much slam I don't think I need it.
