I wouldn't buy them.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

why not?Yep, my name really is Bob.
Parasound HCA1500A(indoor sound) and HCA1000(outdoor sound), Dynaco PAS4, Denon DP1200 w/Shure V15 Type V and Jico SAS stylus, Marantz UD7007, Polk L600, Rythmik L12 sub. -
I wouldn't buy them.
Might be a good idea not to, but it could also be a find.
I am curious if they have any known issues once they have some age on them...wondering what you would think.
I had a friend who bought a set of these new back in the early 80s and they sure were something special back then.
I e-mailed the seller but no reply as of this post. I just thought I'd put it up here in case there was anyone who would be interested. -

So they don't age well and/or due to the design they cannot be modded or have old parts replaced? Parts not available?
I'm not questioning your wisdom here at all, I'm just curious to know, just for my own education. I know they have some sort of strips (mylar?) that produce the sound, but other than that I don't know that much about them, except they were top of the line, and they didn't have a very large footprint.
I haven't talked to my friend who had them in years, so I don't know what the status of his are.
I'm not going to buy these but in the future I might be tempted to buy this model, so I'm just trying to avoid a mistake by asking all these questions.
Thanks! -
something else needs tending to based on age alone. If they were in direct sunlight and/or cranked a lot they need more work. The work can still be done and parts are available though, I will say that.

Thanks for the info.
So these would be best placed in a room with no widows then, sounds like. -
It wasn't the top of the line model for that year, it was the entry level Magnepan.
I've never liked the vintage, smaller Magnepan. The new MMG(or SMG) is a steal at the factory asking price and basically negates any interest in the babies from the old days.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Interesting. It seems like something I've occasionally fantasized about having over the years turns out to be better in my imagination than in real life...
Thanks for the input.
I never did get an e-mail back from the seller either...just as well apparently.
