Dumb question about using a receiver as a Pre/Pro

I bought a Denon AVR 2809CI to use as a processor. Does it still draw as much electrical current even though I am not using the amps in it? If so is there anyway to turn the amp section off? I read through the owners manual but didn't see anything that would help.

It should draw less current, but the amps will remain on, and the unit will still get warm. There is no way to turn them off.
