It's a pretty nice amplifier; probably worth repair (or at least troubleshooting).

Could be dirty pots (controls) and/or switches. Try fiddling a bit; jiggle buttons/knobs/toggles. Things like tape monitors and mute switches are often culprits, as are function selectors (which are pushbuttons on the A-1000 IIRC).

As I recall, the A-1000 has separate pre in/main out; probably has a switch on the back panel rather than jumpers. Check.

    HTH.

If you are inclined to join Audiokarma, there's a Yamaha expert there, Merrylander. He's not actively seeking work, but he's a great fellow and will generally kindly and patiently dispense advice. Even if you don't wish to join, you can go and search for threads on that amp; maybe find some useful info.

That is not a model I have any personal experience with, unfortunately.

EDIT: Having Googled a bit, I am now wondering whether your amp is a DSP A-1000? If so... you can disregard pretty much everything I said above; I know nothing about that amp. Sorry :-(

This might be of interest... is this the amp in question?
