How about this...

In your humble opinions which would sound better. 2 RT3000's with a CS1000 center as the front array or 3 RT3000's (using an RT3000 as a center)?
Just curious, I bet the 3 RT3000's would be a much better sounding setup.

I would say stick with the CS1000p for imaging purposes. One RT3000 might sound better than the CS1000p, but how are you gonna position the single RT3000 so that it will "be in the middle"? Do you have one of those sound transparent, front projection screens or something? I say if you're that concerned about the center cahnnel, get a dedicted sub for the center.

Hey Darrin
Every thing I have read says the best front setup is useig three of the same speakers. You could always take the sub section and seperate it from the top. Put the sub along side your monitor and the upper section ontop of the monitor or a hanger above the monitor. Something like that. The 1000 is always nice, thou.
What about two sub sections on ether side of the monitor and the upper section mounted above, that would sound good IMO.

That's what I was thinking Chris, that three identical speakers would have an advantage in imaging and timber matching, not to mention superior bass performance. As far as placement, it would be tricky, but speaking strictly on sound quality, I believe the 3 rt3000's would sound better. I'll just get a 13" b&w TV and put it on the center speaker. That'll work.

Hm.
Yow, do i wish i had the spare change to be in this range of speaker-buying. And real-estate-buying to have a place to put all the high-zoot gear...
Looking at the CS1000p, while it doesn't have the exact same driver complement as the RT3000p's, it does use the same tweeter and midranges, and goes nearly as low with the powered subwoofers, and that's should cover the frequency range for voice and other sound at the center channel. I'd hate to try and figure out how to position an RT3000p, trying to center the tweeter above or below the screen on the centerline and evenly distribute the other drivers to the side.

5 of the same even better, NHT has pushed this with their Super Zero and Super One for years (using a single speaker as the center - bookshelf in this case).
Best image and 'round the room' effects, 5 identical speakers imo. (not identical drivers only, but truely identical, same model)
I would not worry about horizontal imaging in a speaker not designated for center use. As with most manufacturers, esp Polk, you should have the same response up to say 30 degrees (or more) off axis anyway. I have yet to visit a home theater where the 'sweet spot' was outside that range.....

Three identical speakers does work well, a guy I know is using three RT 55i's, CC had a single one on the clearance table and he bought it and it works well IMO.
I think if you buy pair of RT3000's you can turn in one of them for a free remote, all problems solved.
