On a digital camera whats the difference between digital & optical zoom? thanks
My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

Optical zoom uses the camera's optics/lenses to achieve the zoom. No degradation in image quality.
Digital zoom uses software to zoom in, much like you do when you zoom in on your computer. You can always take an optically zoomed image and digitally zoom in on it on your computer to achieve the same result if not better.
When looking at Camera specs-pay very little heed to Digital Zoom and only look at the Optical zoom capabilities.

When getting high in the zoom 'x' (like x10 and up), also look for a camera that had Optical image stabilization (which again uses mechanics) as opposes to lesser forms of digital image stabilization.____________________
