Lsi fx surrounds

I have heard all the threads on placement of the fx's as surrounds behind the couch. My question would be if your couch is against the wall and my fx's are on the wall would it be better to mount them higher up the wall facing downward. Now they are at ear level. Of course it would be better if i could move the couch in, but that will not work for me. And if i decided to mount them facing down, is there a bracket strong enough to hold them. Just trying to get a little more space from the fx's. Thanks guys.
