The RTi10 was rated at 300w max and i want to know if it's the peak or continuous? i'm about getting the RTi10 for my Carver A-500X power Amp. i got a pair of JBL rated at 400w but couldn't handle my Parasound HCA-1500A. the power amp blew up the horn tweeters and a speaker below the horn tweeter i don't know what you guys call it by. 4 pieces of the 2 floor speakers were gone. the volume was not even close the half

so continuous is around 150w ?

My Sunfire hasn't bothered my RTi12s. I think you should be fine.

I have not had any problems with my RTi-10s behind the amp in my sig. However I would be surprised if I have ever pushed them at a continuous 200 watts for any length of time. I don't think any type of listening would require that much constant power over a ling period of time. I think you will be fine.

I wouldn't worry about feeding them too much power.....my 8's do just fine with my Adcom and I really push them hard when the wifey's gone.:D

I have had my RTi10's hooked up to a lot more available wattage than that. Using Carver amps as well. So long as you have clean power and you are not amplifying distortion, you'll be golden.

Under powering a speaker is far more detrimental than overpowering. Just keep in mind, when you hear distortion, TURN IT DOWN!!! With the Carver amp, you should be able to make your ears bleed before you reach the speaker's threshold of power. I'd also like to welcome you to Club Polk.

Not quite- we don't recommend our speakers by "peak" or "continuous" since it's EXTREMELY difficult to know exactly how much power is going to your speakers, unless you've got specialized test equipment and are running test tones. Music is very complex and highly dynamic (even very compressed material) and amplifiers also have peak power. That being said, the "continuous" rating of our speakers is lower than the "max amplifier recommended" rating but the peak is higher.

So an amp 250 watts per channel will fall within recommended amps of the RTi10. Is is possible to still blow the speakers? Yes, depending on the volume and material going through them. As another poster said, if playing loud, keep a sharp ear out for distortion or signs of speaker distress.

If loud is the OP's #1 goal, perhaps some PA type speakers should be considered. They're more efficient, are designed to play loud and project and will be more reliable than home gear (but won't sound as good).
