Exploring new genres and in SACD

I enjoy the symphony but I don't know the symphony. I see that 90% of all SACD recordings are classical recordings. I want to try a few but I have no idea how to pick a good record. Here’s what I think I want and in this order.
Multi-channel mix (for the experience of it)
Superior engineering – quality recording
I liked the sound track to Robin Hood, a Pauper in Paradise; I like Bach. I’m wide open to traditional/classical, old –yes, geriatric-not so much. I’d like to feel like Mr. Holland when I listen to it.
Can some of you guys toss me a bone on this? I’d sure appreciate it.

Igo, yes there're over 2,000 classical SACDs, and for a good start I'd suggest that you take advantage of the Telarc SACD sale that Danny describes in a thread below. The sale involves buy four, get one free, 10% off and free shipping if over $50. The net result of this is five SACDs for about $50. I'd recommend the following five: Gliere ; Prokofiev ; Rachmaninoff ; Ravel ; Tchaikovsky .

Here are a few that I like.

    SACD:
    - Concerto Veneziano" with Giuliano Carmignola on Violin
    - Boston Symphony Camber Players (Mozart Chamber Music for Winds and Strings) recommended by Troy here on the forum.

    Redbook: Still good quality
    - Mozart Concertos for Two & Three Pianos - Murray perahia / Radu Lupu
    - The Complete Mozart Symphonies - 11 CD set (The English Concert - Trevor Pinnock) ** Picked this up on sale one time - Great value for $15.
    Michael ;)
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

I really don't think you can go wrong with the Sony/BMG Living Stereo SACDs.

I know most of these composers but can you recomend specific recordings of merit? With as many recordings from these composers works, I can't know which might be a dud and which might be an exceptional recording.
    I appreciate it.

janmike, both your SACDs made it to my shopping cart. Thank you.
Lasereath, bjork might be a bit left of center but I'm giving her a try. I found two used CDs at Amazon for next to nothing. I'll report back later.
Danny, I just read an old article on Stereophile about these recordings. You fir string recommendation is in the shopping cart. Thanks a bunch.

Igo, if you were referring to my reply, those are clickable links to specific recordings, not just composer names.

Oh. Fantastic. Stealth hyperlinks. LOL. I do enjoy Tchaikovsky. I'll look into these as soon as I've finished dinner. Thank you such much.
