Which harmony....One or 880?

My Harmony 659 finally said enough; close to 3 years of abuse, drops etc. and it's now ready to be replaced. It still works, but the plug to connect it to a PC is not there anymore; the last blow was probably too much (hey, but it still works!!!)

So I'm getting a new one; it will be a Harmony again, and the question is, Harmony 1 or Harmony 880? The difference is like $70; Is the One worth that difference? Why?

I had the 880 before the One was released, much prefer the One over the 880, i feel the One has a better button layout and just feels better and more natural in my hand over the 880. The 880 has since been demoted to bedroom duties and i absolutely find it a chore using it late night while in bed, the One is definitely worth the price difference IMO

Another vote for the 880, I also have one and enjoy it very much. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy for spending $100+ on a remote, but my running joke is it would probably make me french toast if I asked it nice enough. I also have never used the One though, so I am a bit biased.

I have the 880 and absolutely love it for my purposes. I bought it here used on the forum. You can get it way cheaper than a hundred dollars if you're willing to get it used or refurbished.

Amazon has a $30 rebate for the Harmony One that puts it at $139.99; I think I'll go with this one.

    Thanks for the input!!!!

Good choice! I've had both, and would take the ONE over the 880 anyday. The ONE is WAY more refined...

Hey Ricardo. I also have the 880 and I think all these remotes do the same thing. That said I would say go for the Harmony one if you like to change channels, these buttons on the 880 suck. I feel that of all the buttons to have the volume and channel change are in the worse place possible on top of that they are contured around the unit which make them very crappy to use.

Other than that I like my 880

That was the one thing that made me think the one would be a better choice; it has the volume & channel buttons in a "normal" layout. I could not even see them in the 880 :)

I just replaced my 880 with the One and I am in heaven. The 880 was an ergonomic nightmare. I never liked the feel of it. It's like the One was custom made for my hand, and the keys are organized much better. I love it. :)

I just picked up a 720 to replace a URC MX-500, which I dearly loved.

So far, so good. I find it a bit narrow and a bit fumbly at times compared to the MX-500. Making it do all the same functions took some time, but once you get it, it works very well.

    One beef.
Why does Logitech make it so difficult to compare their different remotes? Nothing on the web site, nothing on the packaging, stating differences of features.

For example, the 880 and One have less capacity for # of favorite channels than the 720. (18 vs. 24)

They all seem to have the same functionality, differing in layout, shape and screen type. Basically came down to, "f*(& it, I'll try this one". lol

BTW, here's a link for you One and 880 guys. Network logo buttons.http://www.iconharmony.com/icons/

I originally had the Harmony 880 and I loved the fact that it had macros. I then moved to the Harmony 1000 and really enjoyed using it but after a while I became tired of the two hand operation and always having to look down. Currently I use the Harmony One and it is the perfect balance between the two. The buttons are easy to get used to (I almost never have to look down at the thing), there are a lot of different shapes and notches on the buttons so you can easily decipher which button your finger is on without looking, there is also more space between buttons, and I prefer the overall feel better than the other two.

They are all good remotes but I can easily recommend the One over the other two which I own that I have been demoted to other systems. With that said, one nice thing about the Harmony 1000 is the RF functionality since one of my systems has the AVR, sat box and DVD player in a cabinet.

I just got the One for my setup. It was so easy. If you have a DVR on your cable box, it is really easy to control it via the One. I definately recommend this one. I got mine at a Circuit City going out of business for $149. good luck.

I got my one and like it a lot; the only thing that's different from my 659 and I need to get used to..it doesn't have a button to turn on backlight..it just turns on when touched somewhere, but I still need to learn exactly what is it you touch that makes it turn on.

Get the One. It has a much better button setup. The buttoms themselves are bigger and spaced apart. The large LCD screen is very easy to read and its a cinch to use.

yes, and I think it is hard to find one that works in unison with a DVR, and the One works very well with this function. All on the touchscreen, baby...
