    Jayson,
Make sure you are not 'leasing' the box. If so, Directv will want it back if/when you cancel the service or replace the box with a DVR.

    Dave,
You may want to check with Jayson to see if this is one of the newer MPEG4 boxes. That is what you will need if you want to get all the recently added HD channels. The older boxes are MPEG2 only, which is being phased out by Directv.

Yes, the H20 is an MPEG4 box. Looks like you 'own' the box for sure, so there should be no problem giving it away.

    Dave,
Are you planning to use this as a new added box or to replace one that you already have? If it will be an added box to your system, you will need to get an access card from Directv ($20). They will not allow you to activate a card that was used on another system (Jayson's).

If you are swapping boxes, you should be able to just pull the card out of the box your retiring and put it in Jayson's HD box. You will have to call Directv to get them to link the two. If you pretend you are an installer when you call, it will go much smoother. As a customer, sometimes they try to make you think that a new card is needed every time (for a charge of $20), but that is not true.

Thanks, Jayson! I finally got it hooked up and working on Christmas eve. It was nice watching my Lakers wump up on the Celtics in HD yesterday.

They ended up sending me a card after we couldn't convert my existing one. Well, that one didn't work either. At least until I hooked up some filter doomafliggy that you sent with it! I suspect my original card would have worked if I had hooked that up in the first place. I have what apears to be an identical model in another room and it doesn't use that thing.

Thanks again for your generousity and Merry Christmas!

good im glad it all worked out and merry christmas to you as well. i was reading this post about karma thing ( you give stuff away for free), and it funny that i read that after i sent the box to you. anyway i am doing some cleaning (girlfriend having me get rid of stuff) so i will have more items for free coming up. I just dont like trying to sell when the item does not have a big worth( under 150.00) so if someone can use i would rather just give it away. Plus it gives someone a smile on thier face.
