Receiver too much power for the Polk speakers?!?

I have purchased the Pioneer VSK-1018 Reciever ( [http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/PioneerReceivers/ci.VSX-1018AH-K.Kuro ) and i'm afraid it's too much for the POLK RM705 series I just purchased ( http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/rm2008/features/rm705/ )

In Pioneer's manaul it says it puts out 110 Watts Continuous and Polk's site it says that speakers can only handle 50-100W continuous... My question is how much am i at risk for blowing the speakers or slowing destroying them?

Also in Polk's manual it says to use speaker wire of guage 18 for lengths under 25 and 16 for over 25 ft... would it be ok to use the 18 guage for up front and 16 for the back?

Thanks

As you can tell i'm new to this whole audio thing, but reallllly excited to get it all hooked up sunday!

    1) The speakers will be fine.... I'm assuming you don't plan on playing them constantly with the volume turned to 11? :D

    2) That cabling is fine, too.... but may as well just get 16 guage all around.... bigger won't hurt anything. I honestly use 12 guage in my 2 channel rig, and i'm running wire all of.... 4 feet.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

GV, keep in mind that the 110 watt rating that you mention is simply the maximum that can be cleanly output. You, not the receiver, are in control of how much power is used(with the volume control, of course), and for a comfortably loud average level only about 1 watt would be used. If you play material with a very wide dynamic range(e.g., some classical recordings)a very brief peak might use around 100 watts, but that's still okay for your speakers.

Also from what i've learned you will almost never blow a speaker because you have a few too many watts usally it's distortion ex to much bass boost if you turn all of your gains right down you can crank the watts with in some type of reason.
pioneer and sony watts arent measured the same way as say harmon kardon or onkyo
my sony was 100 watts a channel and my new hk3490 is only 120watts but atleast 2X as powefull closer to 3
