Hello everyone. Iam a brand new member. My very first speaker were the Monitor Series 5jr's , then SDA 1B's, and just picked up a pair of RTA 11TL's for $75. Only problem is that one tweeter is blown. So I called Polk Audio today to inquire about a replacement SL3000 tweeter, which costs $60.00. They told me that the replacement tweeter will sound better than the original. Is this true??? Just curious??:D Thanks!!!:)

if the replacement tweeter sounds different or better, buy two and replace both of your tweeters. so they match soundwise. and yeah mention you are a member here for a nice discount.

Welcome. I recently replaced the SL3000 tweeters in my RTA11TL's with the RDO198s and was very pleased. I do recommend replacing both as the system does not sound proper with the mix of old and new. I did try it. You will not be disappointed with the upgrade. Do mention that you are a Club Polk member to get the discount ($48 vs $60).

You may have already read of some of the other tweaks and upgrades suggested on this forum. I am in the middle of my RTA11TL project and the advice here is great. Some of the tweaks are very inexpensive (ie. Moretite to seal the drivers).

    Enjoy,

Sweet. I've always wanted to build an A-body. Especially with a stroker small block.

Your gonna love those new tweets. So smooth compared to the 3000's. One of these days I'm going to hear a pair of RTA towers. Would love to hear any of them, especially the bigger pairs.

When you open them to change the tweeters, check the crossovers. Mine had a 12uF electrolytic cap (blue) soldered in parallel to the leads 4.4uF mylar cap (yellow). The solder connections were bad on one of them.

For your next upgrade, consider upgrading the crossover capacitors by replacing all the electrolytic caps with mylar. Your new tweeters will smooth out the highs and the crossover upgrade will further smooth and open up the sound stage. There is plenty of good guidance here on the forum.

Stan, why stop at mylar? Film and foil caps are even better.

If they were mine, and I planned to jeep them,,I would replace all the resistors with Mills and the caps with Sonicaps,, then you are "good to go" for the next twenty years or so, Just my two cents worth.Good luck.:)

True. Actually, I went with Clarity Caps PX which are a MKP for the tweets and Jantzen Cross Caps for the MWs. I am sure I could have done better but I was balancing price vs performance. So far I am very pleased with the results.

    Hey Chad...
I noticed a pair of RTA11TLs for sale... the description seems to match your purchase. Is that correct? What happened (i.e. why are you selling so quick)???
