Lately I was debating getting the new SVS PB12-plus for the preorder price of $999 versus the velodyne spl1200r for $899. No place to actually audition them first so I was trying to do as much research as possible.

Well I waited long enough that the SVS is now its regular price of $1199 and the velodyne is not available even close to $899.

Now looking at the HSU VTF-3 MK3. Can get black satin finish for $594. Any thoughts on this sub and whether the turbo unit is worthwhile. Listening is 50/50 music and HT. Do not want to sacrifice "musicality" of sub. Will pay more if needed. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that! I have a friend that was running the Hsu with the turbo and I thought it sounded really good. But, he sold it and upgraded to a SVS. He is very happy with it.

I have 2 Outlaw LFM EX's and no lack of bass. My split for music and movies is about 50/50. I have been very happy with them and they can get down to 16hz. I got them back in April (2 for $999.00). Now 2 of them are $1,198. (one is $649). So you could buy the SVS now for the same money. If your heart is set on the SVS and you can afford it, buy it. You won't be happy with anything less. There are a lot of subs out there and no lack of opinions as to whats good or bad. I have heard the HSU, Outlaw, SVS, MFW15 and they all sound great. As long as you stay in that range of quality and place it correctly in the room you will have great bass.

Good luck and let me know which one you choose.

Give Stephen at http://www.questforsound.com/ a call & tell him Phil sent you. He might be able to get you the SPL-1200R from his Velo rep. They were blowing them out because of the new model coming out at a few $$$$$$ more. I'm running two of them &...need I say more!

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at the epik subs however I was a little concerned over the delay in delivery people have been experiencing. I did find another source of the velodyne spl1200r for $899 on audiogon! Hopefully placing an order tonight.
