Any satellite listeners out there? What do you think of the merger?

I'm a Sirius subscriber and I lost my favorite channels; The Vault and Buzzsaw. I'm really pissed. The replacements from XM, specificly Deep Tracks..... suck.

Life goes on. Just be glad they even still exist as an entity...and the long term prospects of that are questionable.

I'm ready to cancel my two XM radios; they eliminated the two channels that my wife listened to. I called to cancel, but they gave me two complimentary months to wait for them to evaluate the lineup; it seems that there's a lot of people complaining from both sides.

I have a Sirius subscription and all I ever really listen to is Howard 100 and 101 and I have XM with my DirecTV service which I think I have listened to twice.

So far, I don't like it.

Too much talk now on the music channels I listen to (where there used to be none).

Yeah they threw out Hard Attack (from serious) and replaced it with the XM channel, and I swear the DJ talked for a long time. No commercial, but I was thinking to myself...if I wanted to listen to a DJ I would turn on the radio.

I still mostly listen to Octane but even that has changed. Definitely Hits 1 is for the worse. I remember buying SIRI stock at 1.05 and selling it at 8 bucks. I never looked back but hope they survive because I love having NFL network in the car.

    Wow.

I still like my Sirius. It's much better than FM, for sure. I get good reception and decent quality on the stations that matter most. I need to check out the new lineup, though.

Radio will go the same way TV did -- from free to pay, and you'll pay a premium for commercial free radio. Some of the Sirius channels already have commercials. WTF?

Because Sirious and XM are restricted to "X" amount of bandwidth, the losey compression is an absolute butchery of the audio signal. Let's check the math. Does anyone here know the bit rate delivery of a cd? the bitrate delivery of a lowly MP3? and the bitrate delivery of the average Sirious broadcast?
I have a pretty complex audio system in my car and I have satelite radio but most broadcast sound as if they are coming out of a tin can. Last April I paid for 1 year. Next April my sirious radio will be religated to dust collecting under the seat. It's a shame. These guys could double up or triple up on genre (and in that, half or 1/3 the compression and there would be more variety on each channel and the audio signal would be much more acceptable.

Really? Terrestrial radio (ie, free radio) is surviving (not doing great, but surviving) while XM/Sirius is tanking and on the verge of bankruptcy. The pay radio model has essentially failed, but you somehow feel it's the wave of the future?

Watch and learn, my son, watch and learn. Few things in life are FREE.

Drinking water used to be free, too. If someone told me 20 years ago that bottled water would be the "wave of the future," and various brands would be nestled alongside Coca-Cola in the same vending machine for the same price, I would have thought they were nuts. Same holds true for television. How many of your friends watch "free TV?" Hell, this generation has probably never heard the term, "rabbit ears."

If Sirius/XM fails, trust me, someone will come along with the right business model to make it work, and there will be plenty of customers willing to pay for it.

Fair enough. Technically radio isn't "free", in that it's advertiser supported.

And the two examples you give of pay things, while very valid, ARE available for free to those who want to use it (broadcast TV and tap water).

So I guess I can concede that there will be a popular pay model for radio, but I can't imagine terrestrial radio completely going away.

Tap water is free? Damn, I've been paying that bill for years. I must have missed the memo.

I would have been a supporter if the sound was better that what a muffled Bose speaker could offer. I have litterally heard I-pods that sounded better than both services. Not knocking them really, just relaying my observations......

I don't know..I love XM...NOTHING on the FM dial is any good for me..
But I also like old 80's hair metal and THe Boneyard satisfied my tastes...now that went away and is replaced with Hair Nation, which i like even better

But as far as the rest of you who say you lost stations, I was under the impression that this was just temporary so we can hear what Sirius stations were offered (or vice-versa). Then we would choose a package based on what channels we liked..

    Or am I wrong?
