Gotta love this place!

After careful consideration....and your suggestions didn't fall of def ears....
But I went back with something I'm familiar with....Velodyne!

You woulda too!
I got a spanky new Velodyne DPS-10 in box when it was all said and done for $225 shipped!!
Paypal sent me a 10% off coupon offer and this one I found on Evilbay was BNIB $250 shipped -10% offer = $225.
Now that was just too hard to pass up!!!(MSRP was $499)

I thought maybe it was an old model but the manufacture date is Dec 27,2007 not old at all.
I had a CT-100 for a number of years and loved it.
Sold it in the Spring after it sitting for 4yrs.
Over the Summer I got a brainy idea to get another system setup.
Oh well I'm sure I'm not the only one that's happen to?
This DPS-10 is 185watt RMS and my old CT-100 was 150watt RMS.
So I did get a lil upgrade....as well as lil better digital processing which does produce a lil cleaner thump! :D

My Polk PSW120 is a very nice lil unit but it was time to upgrade to just a tad more punch.
Thus it being up in the forsale area for a new Polkie home. :)

Just curious.....how many others here have a Velodyne and what wattage/Model?

I have the CT-120. Not sure of the wattage....somthing like 250 maybe. I've been pretty happy with the output, but it is slow and has a lot of port noise. At the time that I bought it I didn't know what I was doing at all and it was the best sounding sub that Circuit City sold by far. I paid a rediculous $450 for it which is sickening considering what you can get for those $$'s used.

It hits hard and has nice rumble but is WAY too slow for music. I don't hate it enough to upgrade just yet...but I'm getting close. I almost bought one of the PSW1000 refurbs the other day.

Yeah with todays new technology and DSP the sound produced is much tighter and responsive!
CT series is about 8yrs old IIRC and things have come a long way in that time.

The DPS 10 if played within it's limits is a very tuneful sub. Make sure you calibrate it, then leave those front blinking light volume buttons alone. One good thing about the sub is that it plays much lower than it's specs indicate. However, distortion goes way up and the driver goes into distress at high volume on content below 25hz. So don't run it too hot. It will be a very nice sub for you.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO

    Please elaborate on "Calibrate"
Something I've never tried before.....actually never heard of it till I got on this forum. :o

Setting speaker size, distance, crossover and volume level matching between your speakers and sub using the test tones and a Radio Shack SPL meter. Audessey or other auto setup/eq versions will do it, but there are usually errors.

It's not hard, takes about 10 minutes to do it manually and you then have a balanced system. The DPS volume control is wonky. You never know where you are relative to any scale. You want to get the sub balanced with the mains and then leave it alone.

Yeah I have no meters but I do have the option on my Yamer to do a "sound test" via the ole lobes.
I have option to set crossover via the reciever....what should that be?
I think I have it set at 80 or 100mhz.

Real stupid question.....what is LFE?:o

80hz XO is good starting point. If you can borrow a RS SPL meter make sure your mains and Sub are balanced, meaning play a test tone on AVR say at 75db then use you level settings to get sub at 75db like mains.

I know nobody that has a meter to borrow.....I'll hafta to rely on my rather larger lobes. :o

Hey! Although I don't use Velodyne in my HT (NHT SubTwo here), I have had quite a bit of experience with Velodyne subs. On the budget side, I loved a pair of DPS-12 in stereo.

I also currently use a completely restored ULD-15 in my 2-channel setup. That sub rivals my NHT in terms of low musicality and digs slightly deeper (by 1 or 2 Hz ;)).

I didn't wanna get to carried away!
With a room that's 10x15 and a small house I have enough power now.(185watts RMS)
I see there is a HSG that's 1000watts which is suicide but I also read that they were s*** cuz the amps don't hold over a year.
Velodyne musta dropped the ball on this series!!
Never read such poor reports on Velodyne as I have on these.
At $1400 I'd be royally PO'd as well!!!
