I have an opportunity to pick up some black SDA 1B's locally for $300. Reading through the forum, this looks to be a pretty decent deal. Maybe a really good deal around here because this is the first set of 1 anythings that I have seen come up in a couple of years. They look to be in good shape from the pics but I haven't seen them in person yet. IC is included. They would be going in to a 25x20x8 room with two large openings on the wall opposite of the speakers.
These would be replacing a set of 2A's (one tweet, two mids) that has been upgraded with RD0's, sonicaps, and mills and they sound great. Reading through nspindel's recent upgrade from 2B to 1C, he seemed pretty happy with the change, although he never did do that head to head comparo he promised Since mine is a similar situation, any consensus as to whether this would be worth it? I plan to do new tweets and caps again although I will probably only use sonicaps in the high pass and use daytons in the mids and woofers due to cost reasons. As I understand it, I can do the TL mod with the addition of a 5.8 cap in parallel with the 2.7 resistors (thanks Ben) on both tweets so I can use the 198s, which I prefer. If that is correct, I will be doing that also.
All that being said, any thoughts, comments, etc? The only reason I hesitate is the price of the speaks, tweets, caps, and resistors starts to add up a little bit. I will sell the 2A's and hope to get about $300 for them so that would offset the cost some.

You can not do the upgrade on that one so easily. I would stick with the 194's.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

1B's would be easy to upgrade to 198's. 1C's would not. They have a more complicated XO that would require a bit more modding to get correct. I am pretty sure that Polk is restocking the 194's again. They were out for a while, but I think they are back in stock.

OK, now I'm confused Is there more to it than the cap then? If so, np. I will stick with 194's"The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides
