I am picking up my 3rd set of RTA 12s on Sat. I got a set of RTA 12Bs with a Hafler DH-500 amp and DH-110 preamp about a year ago. My first separates and the sound blew me away. I did blow a couple of the midrange speakers getting carried away but got replacements from Polk thanks to this forum.

2 months ago I say a pair of mint 12Cs on ebay that were local that I won for $107. I have these being driven by a Sony STRG-3 in my home entertainment center and even in this system the speakers are fantastic.

3 weeks ago another set came up on ebay local that no one bid on so I won them for the $100 minimum Going to pick them up on Saturday and not sure which RTA 12 they are. I plan on giving these to my 90 year old father who really likes the sound of my Polks.

I need to quit looking for these speakers, I can't resist...

I've got one set (C's) doing double duty as front mains in a HT/Music system. They sound great in HT mode with the Pioneer Elite AVR, but I will say that music sounded better with the now dead Harmon Kardon. Someday I'll think about looking for another set for the bedroom.

Have you had any problems with the tweeter protection polyswitch in your 12Cs? I've seen that others have taken the polyswitches out of theirs due to problems. I've not had a problem yet with mine but have blown the fuses in my 12Bs on a number of occassions.

It's not so much that it is a problem, but the SQ can be improved by bypassing the switch.

Never had an issue with the polyswitch, but if eliminating it will improve the sound then I need instructions. Here is a picture of my CO:

Is removal as easy as using a soldering tool to remove the PS if so which of these is the PS?
    Thanks

Its teh small blue one. You dont have to un-solder it. You can also short the legs by using a wire to connect the 2 legs. Strip teh wire and make sure teh metal part touches teh left and right leg.

Do you hear a difference you like ?

monitor 10's sparked my obsession in speaker hunting that has lasted over 5 yrs now. I have not heard the 12's yet but maybe some day. I have a set of rta 15tls also that impressed me too. I read a mod to the 15tls that was very impressive in this forum the other day.I might add some of his ideas to mine. Back to monitor 10s . I also bought a second pair on ebay and then placed one in each corner of my then wood working shop elevated about 8' up. I owned a luxman 1030 powering them at the time.AWSOME sound. Still have the 10s up there but different receivers over the years. I still have a pr. of compact sda's that need a crossover operation to make them right. somebody rewired them before I got them. O well, at least polks never need a surround replacement. How about the picture of the rt collection in another posting that I can't find right now. that is a collection!!!!! 2 sets of srt's along with others.....
    Keep collecting , It's FUN
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I picked up the new RTA 12s, another set of 12Cs. I have them set up at my 90 yr old Dad's house and he loves them. You should have seen the smile on his face when he got to hear them.

I will definately try jumpering out the Poly switch to see how that affects the sound. I guess the only down side is no tweeter protection.

If the legs are long enough you can just twist the poly switch, and hit it with a dab of solder. Makes things easy;)

I don't think your 90 yr old dad is going to be cranking those **** up to 11+ on the volume any time soon.. :p;)

Congrats on the score for your dad. :)
