I am in process of upgrading my HT from 5.1 to 7.1 ( 5.1 setup consists of Monitor 60 - front speakers ; Monitor 30 - surround speakers , cs2 - center : PSW125 ) .I am considering below option

1. Monitor 60 (front ) + Monitor 40 ( L-R surround) + Monitor 30 ( back surround) + CS 2 + PSW 125

2. Monitor 60 (front ) + Monitor 30 ( L-R surround) + Monitor 30 ( back surround) + CS 2 + PSW 125

3. Monitor 60 (front ) + FXiA4 ( L-R surround) + Monitor 30 ( back surround) + CS 2 + PSW 125

Room dimension : 20 ft X 12 ft
The listening area is touching the back wall ,where back surround is to be placed meaning there is hardly any distance between listening area and back surround speakers . Should I stick to 5.1 setup only?
Please advise

Me personally would stick with 5.1 if you do not have any space behind you to really give to rear surrounds. I would rather upgrade the subwoofer or even add another. Just my opinion.

There is no point in putting speakers behind you, in there is no "behind you". A properly set-up 5.1 system sounds amazing, and is better than a mediocre 7.1.

I would suggest the FXi as surrounds since they will be close to the listening position. They will diffuse the sound and make it less directional than the Monitors.
    Fronts: Polk RTi10
    Center: Polk CSi A4
    Surround: Polk FXi3
    Sub: Dayton 100
    AVR: Pioneer VSX-1018AH

Agreed, in your case stick to the 5.1 and use the cost savings for projector /screen, especially if that room is dedicated.

Thanks for the advice. Can the rear speakers be only 1 feet behind listerning position ? In that condition , is 7.1 setup good enough. Just want to keep provision for Blue-ray and PSP3.:). I find PSW 125 is enough and could not find it lacking ..any suggestion for upgrade.

you need more than 1 foot behind listening position in a 7.1 setup IMO. If youre thinking of replacing sub, check out SVS, Epik.

Thanks for suggestions . Having 4 tower speakers in one room means hard time with family. Yes as suggested , I am moving sitting space little bit to adjust rear speaker. Most probably I will be sticking to Monitor 60 + Monitor 30 + Monitor 30 + CS 2 + PSW125 ...does it make any sense to opt for Monitor 60 + Monitor 40 + Monitor 30 + CS2 + PSW 125 .

I am using Monitor 50 for fronts and monitor 40 for surrounds and monitor 30 for rears(not yet hooked up because I dont have the space behind the sitting area). The 40's are a nice size bookshelp and I like the sound that they produce as surrounds. But if you dont want a nice size speaker for your surrounds, there are not the ones for you. the 30's are a nice size and sound pretty good IMO. Hope you have fun with the monitor series. I am lol
