Tone controls

My receiver (H/K 3485) has conventional tone controls, knobs for bass and treble. Can someone tell me what frequencies are affected by each of these controls?

    It should be in the manual. IIRC they are at 100hz, and 10,000hz.

    I did look in the manual, Ben (BTW I hope you are healing well); I didn't find it there. Those figures you recall seem extreme to me. That would leave ten octaves in the middle unaffected. 10,000 Hz is more than an octave above the highest key on a piano. 100 Hz is about 2 octaves above the lowest key.

    Anybody else?

    I think that's fairly universal. The Luxman pre's tone controls effect the same frequencies, +/- 10dbs at 100 and 10K.

    Combo rig:

    Thanks Ron. The +/- 10 dB figure is in my manual, but not the frequencies. I'm thinking that the effect probably doesn't come on abruptly as you go up or down the sound spectrum but probably "ramps up", instead. There would then be a frequency where the ramp starts (two actually, for the two controls.) That would leave some frequencies, beyond where the ramp starts, unaffected. There must be a range of frequencies in the middle above the portion affected by the bass control and below the portion affected by the treble control. Or perhaps the two ramps begin at the same frequency and there is no part of the spectrum unaffected. Or maybe the bass ramp starts at the very top and the treble ramp starts at the very bottom. That is what I am trying to learn.

    My Onkya A-9555 manual says + 10dB, -10dB, 100 HZ (BASS) and +10dB, -10dB, 20kHz (TREBLE)

    20khz :confused:...that's modulating a mosquito buzz on helium.

    Most of the figures I come across are so many db’s of gain/cut (usualy 10dB+/- sometimes 6+/-...) at 100hz (bass) and 10khz (treble) some frequencies are slightly different but not a great deal say 80hz on the bass and 12khz on treble.
