So tomorrow I have to take the money allocated for my new SDA's and fix my automobile. Watch as all the "pristine, upgraded, mint condition, selling at incredibly low price's" SDA's come out of the woodwork here in Southern California. Get ready the deals are gonna jump out at ya! Best of luck and I hope I'm wrong. Keep on Polkin'....

You buy some cheap-**** tires?
I have decent (but certainly not expensive) tires on my Subaru that were 116 each from TireRack. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
The cheapest tires for mine start at $110. That's just 17' for a Mustang GT. I'm hoping there will be some sales for Day after Thanksgiving.Setup:

My tires are 245/75R16's. I was looking at Hercules Tires... I believe All Country A/T's. If I'm not mistaken, they are a USA-made tire.
My former neighbor owns a tire shop and that's all he sells. If he didn't trust them, he'd never sell them.Ludicrous gibs! -

Tires for 15" wheels are the cheapest tires you can buy. 16s are a little more expensive, and they go up from there. Thats in part why. Plus you figure in road hazard warranty, mounting and balancing, tax. I believe mine were around $550 for all 4.

Michelin is the cream of the crop. You can tell by the # of air holes [or rubber "fingers" that stick out] that help with the aeration of the original tire design during the mold process. The more that you have, the lower the quality and the more issues you have with the tire design and it is also indicative of the issues the manufacturer had with the build of the tire. All of those "fingers" indicate where the tire design had an initial failure that had to be punctured to release excess air. A well designed tire does not need many air outlets.
Michelin will have the least amount.
Hence the price.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

I took Michelins off my SUV that had 1/2 of their tread left and put Bridgestone's on because they were just plain terrible in the snow and ice. I've used Firestone and Bridgestone for years, but performance tires (Potenza REO50) and SUV all season. Not sure what is up with those Michelins (can't remember the model) but they were really scary in the snow. (couldn't steer or stop)HT

What does mold design have to do with tire design performance?
I know that Michelin makes some great tires (particularly performance tires) but for me there isn't a compelling reason to ditch my Potenzas for the extra $$'s. I might try Dunlop's for next year's track season just to see how much money I can save and still stay on the track.HT

Oh boy. Dunlops are what were on my Jeep when we bought it. They were flat out SCARY! They could barely grip when it was dry, but you had NO traction if it was wet out at all. I'm not really exaggerating much either. It was VERY easy with those tires to touch the throttle mid-turn in the rain and accidentally initiate a slide. Stopping in the wet was bad, too.
Now, in hindsight, I was a new driver then...so it was scary...now, I think I could have had a good bit of fun with those...:D
EDIT - I had NO clue what those Dunlops were, as we got rid of them pretty quickly. However, out of curiosity, I just looked through some OLD pics of the Jeep when it was still wearing the Dunlops. In case you were interested, they were Dunlop A/T Radial Rovers.

Heh heh... I fellow weekend racer bought some of the Dunlop Direzza's this season and said they are fairly decent at the track but not as good as the Bridgestone Potenzas. We will see what kind of deals there are over the winter.
Of course, now I have the winter tires on which have much less dry grip, so I need to be careful to save the rubber and not leave too much on the road **** around.HT

Judging a tire BRAND based on an experience with a single TIRE is kind of silly. At least as far as performance goes - durability and reliability are maybe a different deal. But even minor differences within the same MODEL, let alone brand, can be night and day in a tire. My car came stock with a set of Bridgestone Potenza "performance" tires, which were great in dry weather and turned into slip-n-slides in the snow. I bought some all-weather Potenzas - same brand, even same model line, just a different "flavor" - and it's a completely different experience. I love the tires I have on there now.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Pretty silly to drive summer compound tires in the snow...HT

i tryed the summer olny tires in the winter. but we olny get 40 in of snow a year here. but with my air ride it made my car realey hook
-
Summer tires usually harden in the cold, making traction worse.
Snow tires are made to be softer in the winter months."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
I bought extended warranties for both of my vehicles. Of course that doesn't cover tires, brakes, shocks, struts, hoses, belts or oil changes:rolleyes:. I still have the original tires - Michelins on the van and pretty lame looking BFGoodrich on the stang. One of the BFG had a flat from a "sharp, tooth shaped rock". lol
-
Firestone sucks. Maybe not all their tires, but I've been burned several times.
I avoid them when I can. I also got burned at discount tire on effin' tire stems.
Tire stems! What should ever go wrong with tire stems? Seems they
were using cheap Chinese ones that split open. I had one go out in less than
a year. Then about two months later I saw the notice that I had to
go back and have my tires checked out. I was a bit miffed.
Yes, you buy new audio equipment, something's going to break.
In fact, for me it normally happens about the same time I get the
cash together, just before purchase."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

When I had my 95 Corvette, the tires were only supposed to last 12 months or so and cost 300.00 each!! (not including mounting and balancing)
