Luxman gear

A friend who is no longer into audio dropped by last night and gave me a couple of pieces. Luxman TP 114 Tuner/Pre and an F 114 Proc/Amp, no manuals. I've found a few reviews (no specs) on the pre and it looks like a keeper. All I can find is the service manual on the F 114, no specs. The gear is late 80s, early 90s, so the Processor is ProLogic. Judging by the model numbers, I assume the went together in a separates, HT rig. I've got the remotes for each.

The pre has 2 pairs of pre-outs, fixed and variable. I'm thinking for the volume control to work, the variable p/o's are the ones to use, correct?

Cosmeticly, other than some dust, they look to be mint. I'll fire them up sometime this week and find out how they sound.

I might keep the pre, but I doubt if I'll have a use for the processor/amp so if there's any interest or information about the unit(s), please reply.

I'll try to take some pics soon.

Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE

I tried the pre using the variable p/o's...since it's working fine, I must have made the right choice. Oh boy, this is a nice 2 channel upgrade. The HK is very serviceable, but this is another level of sweetness. Vocals and detail have become silky smooth. The overall tonality has just ripened. If the notes before were silver, they are now golden. A Luxman pre combined with an Luxman amp is how it's meant to be heard, I guess. I've been wanting to plug in a separate preamp for some time. This is certainly the best way to experiment.

    SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

    The SRT SEISMIC System:
Four main satellite speakers, six powered subs, two dedicated for LFE channel, two center speakers for over/under screen placement and three Control Centers. Amaze your friends, terrorize your neighbors, seize the audio bragging rights for your state. Go ahead, buy it; you only go around once.

The early stuff supposedly was pretty high end from what I gather. This pre/tuner dates from after Alpine bought them. It's a nice upgrade for 2 channel for me, but it's more mid-fi. No gold plated RCA jacks, but it does have a phono input, tuner, CD, AV, 2 tapes and AUX inputs and remote. I'm told it sold for ~ $700 new.

My buddy had the manuals and his gf dropped them off today. As previously noted, the pre/tuner will work fine for me. The F-114 is a ProLogic processor w/ 3 Darlington amps rated @ 50wpc center and surrounds, w/ pre-outs for all channels, plus a few added surround presets. No SW pre-out, so to integrate a sub you'd need to use the high level inputs and the sub's crossover. One of these days, I'm going to hook it up. I'm sure it sounds great considering how the pre improves things over my HK. However, it's definitely a museum piece considering today's codecs and processing formats.

Is there anyone that has any interest in something like this. I'd gladly karma it, if so. Remote and manual included.
