Agents seize 800 pounds of marijuana
By Stuart Duncan
Tuesday, November 11, 2008

CORPUS CHRISTI — Border Patrol agents recovered about 800 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $633,448 Sunday on U.S. Highway 59 near Freer, authorities said.

It was the largest of three South Texas drug busts during the weekend in which Border Patrol agents seized a total of about 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

A Border Patrol canine alerted agents at the Freer station to 792 pounds of marijuana during an inspection of a Ford pickup towing a cargo trailer, according to a news release. The truck and trailer, its occupants and the marijuana, which was hidden in the trailer's speaker cabinets, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Border Patrol agents also found 175 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $140,000, Saturday at a Zapata checkpoint and 8.2 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $30,560 at a Laredo checkpoint Sunday, according to police.

Damn, I should've bought some of those "white van" speakers when I lived in Austin. Would've saved me a bunch of money to spend $200 on speakers and inside find 100lbs of weed.

here in southern arizona the car stereo shop i worked for said whenever people from across the mexican border come up for custom woofer boxes they'd always do plexi enclosures so when they cross back over time and again border patrol won't have to constantly ask them to remove the subs so they can check inside the box.

I never thought of that, but it's a really good idea; even as ugly as plexi boxes are. :p I am now going to start wearing clear vinyl clothing to the airport to make the security checks easier...
