2xPolkAudio TSi500
1xPolkAudio TSi200 (Pair)
1xPolkAudio CS20
1xPolkAudio PSW110
1xYamaha RX-V663

I've been told I would need an amp to power the TSi500s, but without, would I be ok?

Im a noob when it comes to this stuff, so go easy <.<

You might be able to get the RTI series at a cheaper price.

Na, I get a discount through work :)

Anywho, the spec on the RX-V663 is 95w/channel in a 7.1 channel setup (a least thats what the spec sheet says). Plus I get a discount on that too. Im not sure what else to look at besides watts/channel for the receiver spec.

Also, where would be a good place to buy an amp?

The 663 should be able to handle those speakers no problem (as long as you are not looking to run it full out). It has full 7.2 pre outs so an amp could always be added later. I would go with what you are looking at, then later on look for a good used 3 ch. amp

    shiarua,

I am actually a sophomore at PSU right now living in the dorm and have the following:

    RM8 5.0 system
    DSW Pro 400
    Yamaha RX-V659 receiver
    Pj503D Projector

Was looking to upgrade to TSi500's or Monitor 60's or RTi A5's for my fronts and a CS2 for my center. This ideally would give me a decent 7.1 system. Was hoping to find out what you figured out in terms of your setup. What you eventually went with for your fronts, whether you ever decided on an AMP, honestly anything. Thanks a lot and I hope you figured it all out and are enjoying your system!

    Hey Guys,

I run a M-series system as my second system. M70s/CS2/M30s sounds pretty good with a Denon AVR 2800 series...for extra oooomph in two channel...I use an Adcom power amp on the 70s--yeah, they can handle it, and they love the extra power even though they're pretty efficient speakers. With the Adcom running them I'd put them up against a pair of Rti-8s/A5s--I prefer the M70 crossovers for music! Rts maybe a bit better for HT maybe not--the jury is out for me on this!

I think the Rti-12's/A9s are the most musical of that series but that's some coin!

If you're considering Rti-A5s listen to some M70s as well...see what you think. I've heard them both and I'm sticking with my 2.5 system Ms.

Yamaha 663 has ample power for this set...so you're good....but I prefer Harman Kardon, Onkyo or Denon. Pioneer Elites, also prime candidates.

My first Polk system, purchased just about 1 year ago, included a Yam 663 powering Monitor 50s, 30s, & CS1, rather like what the OP is proposing. It sounded OK, but not great, and it sounded much better when I added an amp.

However, in a dorm room setting, with cramped quarters, lots of background noise, and (justifiably) complaining neighbors, an amp is unlikely to be worth the trouble of lugging back and forth every year or semester or whatever. Let your dream of owning a home with room for an amp motivate you to study like mad and get out of school.

I take it, Shiarua, that you're in school somewhere in the deep north. Down here it's already summer and the schools are winding down.

I think you would be fine without another amp. Your Yamaha V663 should suffice.
