I don't know why he had to explain the product line.
That's a gimme. The amp power thing was interesting.
There's certainly enough people here that would agree with that!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. Reads like typical audio marketing jibberish to me.
500 watts are needed to really crank it up without an amp clipping??? That's a wild blanket statement. There are about 100 other variables to consider.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I read about 2 sentences before I became uninterested.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

More clean power is always better, but at some point you're hitting diminishing returns.
As for the letter, lots of numbers were thrown around without explaining how they came to that conclusion.Brian Knauss

Good read but then I own Musical Fidelity gear and am biased.

Reading through the 750K power amp manual it says that they are to be placed in between an existing amp & the speakers ???
Anybody try one of these yet ??? -
Heard a pair going on around a year ago. They were just hooked up as normal monoblocks & sounded more or less like the kW.
MF's marketing on these is bizarre- They're just monoblocks with an ugly chassis and speaker level inputs.
Anyhow, for the article, nothing new here- for truly huge dynamics, you need one or more of the following:
Short distance to your speakers
High efficiency
Tons of power
I'm a little amused that their slide rule starts at 80db and only goes to 93. I can't remember the last time I heard any speakers under about 85db, but there's tons that can deliver over 95db these days.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Well he has been consistent on the power recommendation for at least the last 10 years. No doubt MF is a fine audio company and they put thought into how each circuit is laid out.
I will still trust in my ears as to what I like despite what any manufacturer may state as some audio absolute. They have not let me down so far.

Audio Advisor is selling the MF 550 Supercharger for half price now. Must not be selling well. I'd love to try a pair with my A1.

$2500 a pair! Damn, that's tempting... and oddly, the same price at the demo they have up.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
