    Ted,

If you can, get an ear on them. In about 6 months, you can hear mine.....I think you will like.

That said, I've heard the 989's have issues in smaller rooms, in which case the 63's/988's would be up your alley. Either way, worth a listen.

    Ted,

Jas makes some beautiful sounding floor standing speakers for as low as $5K. You can see the full line here; http://www.questforsound.com/speakers/spkrs_jas.htm. Everytime I go to the store I wish I had the bread to buy the Odins.

Steve the owner of Quest for Sound will give you a great price. The problem is getting your ears on them in your area.

Tubes love horns, I have a set of university classics and I rebuilt a set using the same horn deisign with the mids being cobreflex folded and a pair of JBLs on top, IF Your SERIOUSLY into hearing deep bass at wisper quiet levels and also want to have a jet fly over and the pilot way WHAT WAS that noise when playing at higher levels, then give your tubes a treat, SUPER efficiant as well, youll hear the band cleat their throat in some songs from a nice cd player. IF you handy and want to spend about $500 youll have a pair of speakers that will SLAUGHTER $25,000 fancy schmancy speakers, Ill post a pic here later as my camera is at work, ALSO do you have room for two speakers that are 2.5'x2.5'x4" high? they also look like furniture just dont put crystal or glass vases on them, at 2 watts stuff vibrates off. PERFECT. Ill post an image later today

Some of you guys have to remember,Ted is looking for something that will offer the same if not better his Carvers, and those are a tough act to follow. With price not being a concern, the man has ton's of options. If it was me,I'd be looking at SP tech,Sonus Faber,Montana,Watt Puppies,Legacy, and a cast of thousands more.Their are more high end makers out there than you can shake a stick at.Also, some of the higher end stuff, you hear things like "it plays strings fantastic but lacks a bottom end",I dunno about you guys, but if I was to plunk down that kind of cash, those suckers better do dishes too.You see where I am going? The Amazings do everything well, just guessing Ted is looking for something equally as good on all types of music. So far,Legacy,Montana,Watt puppies, fit that bill.Yeah,I know there are alot more to choose from, but thats for the man himself to decide.Still, for the price, those Carvers will be tough to displace.Good luck Ted,on your search, and lets hear about it and why when you decide.

I'd sell those Amazing while they still have value. If you like the ribbon presentation, stick with a ribbon based loudspeaker but I think it's time to move on, regardless of what you actually choose. It's time to have fun and listen to all kinds of things. The pigeonholed days are over.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The BAT gear will work best with a speaker having a smooth impedance curve.

Lets start a company and lease speakers on a yearly basis, we will make big dough, you lease for a year with option to buy or trade for a different speaker.

I need some investors, anybody who used to have a 401 which is now a 102 want to put a hundred grand in for seed money? Or five guys put 40 large in and we buy some speaks and trade with each other every year.

The guy you bought those amps from had a pair of Apogee ribbon speakers that sounded pretty damn good. I can vouch for Troy's Quads too, very clear, very transparrent. like your not listening to speakers.

I would think that you would want to enjoy a different presentation than what the Amazings offer. If so, I won't suggest the Emerald Physics even though they are very nice in a 14x14 room. i definitely would have the Sonus on my list as well as the Bamberg's.

RT1, I remember reading of such a company about a year or so ago. Can't for the life of me remember who the company was, but they do exist. Prices weren't that unreasonable either.

Mark are you saying the Emerald have similiar sonics to the Amazings? I keep hearing (well reading) about this speaker.

Max your horns will do, ready to sell them yet? Will they work in a smaller room?

Tom, so you in for 40 large???

WHOA! That is not the company that I was talking about. It seems this company wants nothing more than to bend you over. WTF?

$21 bucks shy of $600.00 per month for a 15K speaker over a LEASE of three years? Holy **** Batman, that's $21,600.00 NOT including shipping [if any], documentation fee and an advance 1 month payment. How in the hell is this supposed to be beneficial?

Unless I missed it, you can't trade in any gear rented for other gear. This was not the case for the other company. So long as you paid shipping, you could swap gear every month if you wanted. That was the point of the whole concept....."You don't like what gear/speaker you tried out, well by all means try something else out"

What are you after? I would think of it that way. There are a lot of options and any of them can make you happy. Dynamics, soundstage, depth, big sound, perfect sound, live sound, perfect reproduction, slam, best with simple or complicated music etc

You'd be better off putting it on an 18% credit card- if you spread it out over 36 months, it'd be waaaaaaaaaay less and you'd actually own the gear at the end.

I have to say that for me I would be looking at either Monitor Platinums, Triad Platinums or Triad Gold Monitors. You can have any finish and wood your heart desires with Triad and the Monitors also have quite a nice finish and either IMO would sound great.

I have the Focal 807v [writeup here... http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63683&highlight=Focal+807v ] that has the TNV tweeter. Based upon the performance with it and how well it works with a tube amp combined with the fact that the technology from the TNC tweeter was taken directly from the pure beryllium tweeter that's utilized in the Grand Utopia, this may be one to be up on the consideration block.

After listening for close to two years, I'm still very pleased with the upper extensions being extremely accurate and present, without it being bright at all. I can't recall a speaker I have heard that has that kind of ability. If you have heard it and/or the pure beryllium tweeter you'll know what I'm talking about and if this is along the lines of what you are looking for, you may want to see if you can arrange to give one a listen.
