Vintage Polk Guide/Book

I have built and restored several Harleys over the last 25 years, last being a 1949EL with year matching sidecar. There are a ton of books and guides for what fits what and so forth.

With all the Vintage Polk knowledge here I am surprised no one has compiled a guide for what changed from year to year, what fits what, what upgrades you can do to specific models, whats rare and whats not.

Anyway just a thought.
Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)
Preamp: Joule Electra LA-150 MKII SE
Amp: Wright WPA 50-50 EAT KT88s

Digital: Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core i5 8g RAM 1.5 TB HDD Music Server Amarra (memory play) - USB - W4S DAC 2
Cables: Mits S3 IC and Spk cables| PS Audio PCs

Thanks Ben, I have found these links and are useful. A definitive guide would be great too.

Yep, I have found that to be true. Been following some of Ron Temple's post over at AVS for awhile which lead me here that resulted in picking up a pair of M12s this weekend.

Darqueknight published an SDA Compendium in 2 editions. I think it's OOP now, but there are a few scanned copies floating around. It's pretty much all things SDA, mods and upgrades. There are a ton of upgrade threads throughout this forum. Cabinets, crossovers, tweeters, etc...might not find an M12 thread specifically, but there are a number of M7 and 10 threads. I think you're set with your stock M12s except for a possible crossover re-do with upgraded caps and resistors. If you're good with schematics and a soldering gun it's something to think about.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Does anyone have a electronic copy of the SDA Compendium because it would be good to have as there is no way now of getting a copy as this publication is now unavailable.

It would go against copy right infringement on the publisher. There are plenty of resources that have all the info available. Plenty of resources here for help. Feel free to ask.

Hi, I'm new to Polk speakers and just picked up a pair at a garage sale for $10. I'm trying to ID them. I saw a picture of a pair of Monitor 11's and on first glance that's what these seem to be. There is a serial number on back, 10A-93647. Can anyone positively ID them? Thanx

Welcome to Club Polk. I am almost 100% sure the model you have is a 10A. You have 2 6.5" mid woofers, a 10 passive radiator on the bottom, and a single tweeter on the top? Post a pic if you can with the grill off. Excellent find.

I think the biggest problem with such a book is that nobody seems to really know when models changed from one iteration to another.

Yep, the wife was selling them at a garage sale and said the husband didn't know she put them in the sale - so I gave her my $10, grabbed the speaks and disappeared as quickly as I could. :D

Very nice. You snagged the most sought out version of the model 10 with the peerless tweeters:eek:, and you stole them:p

Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be shelling out a few bucks for a new mid in one of the cabinets, but from everything I've read they're well worth it!! Looking forward to finding some room for these and serenading the neighbors.

$5 for a pair of Bozak in the same fashion. Carrying the second one to the car and the husband comes out of the house. He gave me a minor amount of **** but ended his sentence with "A deal is a deal" and I figured he was right and I couldn't add much to it. I got them home and he had gone inside one of them for something. On the inside terminal plate he crossed the wires when he was finished. From that point on, if he stayed "in-phase" from the amp to the speaker input terminals, he was wired and listening out of phase. Wonder if he ever noticed the difference.
