I just got my 2.3tls back together, after completing crossover rebuild (sonicap-mills-bypass/polyswitch delete) and redoing all the driver gaskets. All I can say is OOOMMMMGGGGGG!!!!! I expected improvement but not this! I put in my Elton-YBR sacd to listen to Funeral for a Friend (that was two hours ago) and I'm still walking around shaking my head smiling. I'm sure everyone who has done this has the same emotions when they first listen to their "new" speakers, this is what SDA Towers should sound like. Two things I didn't really expect were 1- it seems they are much more efficient i.e. -7 was a good loud listening level before now its more like -15. 2- with the gasket change I can hold the passive in and the drivers stay protruding out so they are sealed up pretty good and now the bass is hitting me in the chest 12 feet away on the couch. I was not that impressed with them when I first got them home and hooked them to a Adcom 5800, it just seemed that they had much more potential. They really improved when I fed them with a Moscode 600 hybrid tube amp but I was still chasing the sound of the 1.2tls that got me hooked. I still plan on changing the tweeters but I that can wait awhile, right now I'm just going to enjoy the music.

draco, Congratulations on a job well done. Now just sit back and enjoy your time, work and efforts at least for alittle while. When you get around to installing the RDO's please let us know what you think about them.

I have a pair of SDA 2's that stay out (they retract a little but then hold) but when I got these they start to retract slowly immediately. I had some seal tape from partsexpess left over from other homemade speakers which is a much better foam (3/8"X1/8"). I did a comparison by only doing the passive on the left side (not the drivers) and the bass is definitely tighter and harder hitting. The factory seals are pretty much a joke especially after almost 20 years. I knew when I finally got my hands on these they would be my last pair of fronts period, so I'll treat them like a classic muscle car-subtle upgrades, take good care of it but drive it like it was meant to be driven.

Glad to hear. Nothing like reviving some 20+ year old speakers to sounding better than new:)

    Congrats Draco!

One Question: When you push in the Passive Radiator (and keep it pushed in) do the 6.5" drivers protrude outwards and then a couple of seconds later they go back in by themselves?

    Or do they stay out?

I do not have SDAs (yet) but my recently acquired Monitor 12s will stay out for at least 30 seconds. Same for both L & R speakers.

I assume that is normal, oh snap, I didn't buy defective speakers did I?;)

    Congrats Dracoskeeper ! Lucky man.
