LSi7s - lit them up yesterday

So, I had the house to myself for about 30 minutes with the family on their way home from errands.
I decided to have some sonic fun and see what the LSi7s could do if pushed a bit.
I popped in Peter Gabriel's "So" CD and skipped to "Sledge Hammer" and slowly turned up the gain until I had the Carver power amp LEDs dancing up and down (-2db).
The side of my mouth twitched into an upward grin at the sonic goodness - these puppies woke up and pumped out some very clean, cohesive and articulate sound. Sound stage stayed intact, they did not sound strained and I was feeling the music as well as hearing it. Clean mix and well balanced - nice bass line.
But....I then skipped tracks to "Big Time" and was less than impressed.
While I like this song alot, the mix on the CD was WAY too bright and it didn't seem balanced from top to bottom - no counter on the low end to the strident top - this song and CD is not conducive to loud listening. Perhaps a remix master, or vinyl would be better.
So, I skipped back to "Sledge Hammer" and gave it another spin - way cool!
Then the family came home....
I'll definitely have to do some more archival digging for more volume experimentation!

fun times.. it's always good to push your system a bit now and then.. it reminds you why you put it together in the first place. sounds like a good way to spend 30 minutes alone.
I know what you mean though.. some songs don't sound good even though most on a CD will sound just fine. I don't know if it was a poor mix or if it was intended to be mixed without any bass and bright highs. It's esp bad if it's a song you really like too.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Erik,
Who wears the pants in that house?
Drew -
Erik you need to give the wife some spending money and tell her to go buy herself something nice, and take her time.

So whats the verdict with the 7's? Like/dislike, keep/sell, A3's/7's.

Good advice.
Happy wife = happy life.
We give each other space - its all about timing
When I have some time, I'm doing one last comparison with the A3s.
But, I am liking the LSi7s.
