I need one EL34 xf2 for a "burn in" tube. I'm getting an old Dynaco ST-70 modded and I'm short one tube. It doesn't have to "test as new" just have over half life and be reasonably quiet.
I've got a nice NOS quad of XF1 going in it after I play it out for about 100 hours or so to make sure it's going to be stable.
Also need a pair of GOOD 7199s for same amp.
Thanks,
Harry

I'll use this as a bump.
One of my friends on another forum asked my why I would need one Mullard and not just buy a quad of EH or similar for burn in tubes. He figured I had 3 Mullards but wanted enlightened.
    My reply:
1: I'd trust a 50 year old quality Mullard EL34 before I'd trust ANY chinese or other similar POS product!!!

2: I do NOT like supporting any Country that will poison kids, pets, and the environment. Whenever possible I will avoid ANY AND ALL product by these countries "LIKE THE PLAGUE"

3: I personally believe we'd better stop dumping our money in other countries that do NOTHING for us.

4: It's all my opinion and beliefs. I will support the U.S.A. and our loyal allies first and whenever absolutely possible.

5: I see these other countries as parasites feeding off us and bleeding us into submission. We keep it up and WE will be the "third world" country. Balanced trade anyone?

6: Hey, they sound better. Even as a burn in tube they sound good.

7: If I really told you the truth I'd have to kill you to preserve the secret designs so I will have the best sounding system in the whole wide world.

8: I REALLY like the way they look burning in the dark.

9: The Mullards burn a bit hotter so they can help end our dependence on foreign oil. I've decided to run Solid State in warm weather and my good Tube gear in cold weather to utilize the advantages and disadvantages of both types of amplification.

10: LAST AND NOT LEAST BY ANY MEANS, I've got 3 already and need the fourth for a quad.

ALL the above is for professional use and should not be tried at home.

If ingested seriously please and promptly consult a physician and have your head removed from your arse.

Take what you will out of this as humor, leave the rest, and hopefully this little disclaimer section will keep a certain beautiful, kind, generous, and extremely sexy moderator off my butt.

PS: I just woke up and I'm not responsible for the content until I have at least one cup of coffee and a crap.

Good luck getting a good pair of 7199's, they seem harder and harder to come by.

I'm not too worried about the 7199s as they're reasonably priced. The single used EL34 XF2 I thought would be the challenge.
    Thanks,

Good luck with looking for the XF2, I am in similar situation, holding 3 used XF1 and looking for the 4th. It is kind of funny that I don't seem to have any luck with the old Mullard tubes. I have a used set of Made in Britain ProComm (presumably Mullard made), no hole in the key, so neither XF1 nor XF2. One was shorted, so only 3 left. A month or so ago, I got a free ST-70 that still had the original Mullards XF1 but one had no emission. In short, I don't have a complete set to play a stereo, sigh.

Fred, I've got 7 NIB NOS XF1 and I'm looking for one more for a second quad. I've got a trio of metal base also I need the fourth tube to complete a quad. 3 isn't a lucky #. All I need is a competent burn in tube to make sure the amp is stable after rebuild/mod in triode. I want to make sure I don't lose some nice XF 1s. I don't trust the import re-issue resistor poppers in this case.

Hee hee, even my Mullards are used, I won't risk to pop them into virgin trial. You are brave man :-) I have a quad of New Sensor EL34's that are tested to be stable at 525VDC (triode strapped), and they are always the first to go into any EL34/KT88 based amp after mods. Yeah, it is always good to have these kind of test tubes around.

Stable is a misleading description. They will be fine one minute and jump off the charts with no warning. BANG! there goes a circuit. I'll take my chances with the old XF2. They're stable, dependable, and a good solid choice to set up my amp. Tubes are easier to replace than amp components. Mostly cheaper when it comes down to it when you figure in your time.
