Computer problem

I have finally put together my first computer:
Intel q66 processor
Gigabyte ep45-ds3l motherboard
PNY 8800 gt video card
Asus xonar 02 sound card
(2) sticks of 1 gig PCI Raptor ram
This is running windows vista ultimate.
I am having a problem with the dvi to hdmi connection to my Sony tv. I have to have the hdmi disconnected from the tv and turn the computer on and then reconnect the hdmi to get a display.
If I turn on the computer on with the hdmi connected the computer will display..it will show information about the graphics card.
Any help to resolve!?
Thanks,
Steve

There's some handshaking that happens with HDMI, are you first turning on computer then tv? If not I think that could help.

Is there anyway around having to have the t.v. off first?
That is a real pain having to turn off the tv.

Is there a way to connect tv via component cables instead?
Or would an AVR doing the HDMI switching help I'm not sure but just a thought.

Since HDMI has this handshaking thing going on, what I was thinking is converting the dvi signal to component instead. This going away with the HDMI issue you don't like with TV off then on after computer in on.

I don't have an avr with hdmi. So it sounds like I am out of options for now. Thanks for the suggestion though. I don't believe I would have considered the conversion to component. From the bottom it looks like a steep incline, From the top another down hill slope of mine. But I know the equilibrium's there! .."Faith No More"

Q what is the final thing you're doing with this computer, HTPC or just to see the web? If just the web why not computer VGA? Also if this working ok with computer on then TV on why not a remote thing where the TV on is last in a setup string?

This computer will be a jack-of-all trades..music server, photo and video editor, surfer. Your final suggestion might be the key to resolve my situation. The computer is not always on. It has a cpu cooler is loud so it can be distracting when watching a movie or tv. So I will live with the minor inconvenience for now. From the bottom it looks like a steep incline, From the top another down hill slope of mine. But I know the equilibrium's there! .."Faith No More"

weird sounds like its the tv. I have a similer setup im using a bfg 6600 gt card and a vizio 42" lcd tv. When I use the dvi to hdmi I dont have that problem doesnt matter which 1 I turn on first will always get a display. My vid card also has an adaptor that looks like s-video to component. Still works fine hooked up with component actually the picture quility looks better hooked up component compared to the dvi to hdmi.TV: Philips 42" LCD 1080p

Some TV brands can handle that handshaking a little better, but I wouldn't say because it has this issue it's the TV.
