New Receiver time (I think?)

I currently have a Pioneer VSX-815. It's a pretty decent receiver in my opinion, and I got it almost brand new from a friend for only $70. I thought it was my current speakers (Sony SSF5000's) that were distorting at high volumes, but I've been told otherwise (it's my receiver). So, instead of upgrading to RTi8's, I figured I'd spend my money on a new receiver so when I actually get better speakers, I get all they are worth.

I'm looking for a good receiver that is budget worthy. I don't know if there are any fantastic budget receivers below 500-600? Even less would be amazing considering I don't have a regular income.

This will be a christmas present to myself.

I probably wont be having 7.1 anytime soon, so a 5.1 receiver would be great. HDMI is not a priority as I don't have a TV that has HDMI currently.

I think you'll be happy with an Onkyo 805 if you can find one, or if you like the sound of the Pio, then the Pioneer Elite 92 or 94 would do the trick and power your speakers no problem. Some will mention H/K though Im not really familiar with them, they can recommend a model for you. Those I mentioned will support 7.1 in case you decide to upgrade in the future, offer preouts if you decide to add an amp later on, great video processing, etc. Take a look.

Onkyo 705 or 706 are great buys. They have HDMI in case you decide to upgrade you TV, DVD player, etc... Also preamp outs, in case you decide to pick up a external amp.

The HK 247 is also worth checking out.

With Black Friday not far away, you may be able to get an Onk 805 in your price range. If you don't plan on buying an amp, the 805/6 is really hard to beat. Amazon has 806 for $649 right now. So I would think you could find the 805 close to your price range.

Just remember that you want the 705/6 and up or you will not have the ability to add an amp in the future (no pre-outs).

    Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, Black Friday will hopefully settle me with some pretty good deals. The Onkyo 805 looks like a pretty good deal. :)

Is the Onkyo 805 better than my Pioneer? Can anybody like confirm via specs and what not?

Could a 2 channel amp possibly be a better choice? Maybe a 3 channel. I wouldn't mind powering my center channel through it aswell.

I doubt you will see any black friday deals on the 805, it was discontinued months ago.

No offense, the Onkyo is better specs and feature wise, but I doubt you will notice a difference with $150 speakers. I would upgrade the speakers first, that will give you much more improvement than any electronics.

Newegg is also a distributer for Onkyo, I found them being cheaper than other places.
