You'll need a receiver or integrated amp or pre-amp/amp combo to get any sound out of those components.

Ok, I got a receiver, its a sony fm am receiver, anyway, how should I connect it to the equilizer and the receiver?
Also, how should I hook the speaker wire into the back of the receiver?

    Unplug everything (from power)

cd player - to equalizer in
equalizer out to cd input on your reciever.
The connections are all right and left (red and white) RCA to RCA.

Right speaker output (on reciever) to right speaker (with speaker wire)
Left speaker output (on reciever) to left speaker (with speaker wire)

Turn volume all the way down. (on reciever)
    Plug everything in (to power).
select input of CD on the reciever
put in the CD of your choice.
select play on the CD player.
    turn up volume to taste.

Enjoy beverage of choice while listening.

ok - well thats really the best answer I have to agree.

My answer is the easiest to set up if you really want to.

Keiko's answer is the way it is really supposed to be hooked up, but can be very confusing to someone new.

I know the popularity of using equalizers has declined. I have a Yamaha EQ630 installed on my main rig and an AudioSource EQ on the bedroom setup. It's personal preference I quess, but I like bending freqs and fine tuning things to suit what I like to hear. Plus they give a cool light show. Might be neat if I ever drop a hit of Purple Haze again. :p jk...Carry on ;)

EQ's can be fun.instead of the purple haze just walk the cow fields in Waimanalo for those purple shrooms ;)

alrighty, i connected the equalizer to the cd player and receiver.

I connected the speakers and as I turned them on I got a lot of static, my speakers suddenly cut out and I started to smell something similar to burning plastic.:eek::eek:
My receiver(Sony FM Stereo/ FM-AM Receiver STR-AV330. Quartz lock digital synthesizer) is pretty old school, so im not sure if its the receiver or the speakers.
If it is the speakers, is there a certain type of speakers I should use?

hmmm.. sounds like your receiver either had a build up of dust/dirt or it may have fried something inside. Burning smell and stereo gear is never a good thing.

It may be time to replace it. or you risk damaging something else like your speakers or burning down the house.
