Here is the deal.....I currently have a Sansui AU-6600 that's been in my family for a long time. I let my sister use it for a while and she blew a channel (or so she said). I popped the top on it and look inside - it has two internal fuses (both 1 amp and need to be matched). One of them was blown.....so I went to get a fuse - couldn't find one as I was way up north. When I got back, my dad had it closed up and said he had an extra one lying around....so he put it in. We turned it on and pffffffft!! One of the caps blew right next the fuse. He had used a 2amp instead of a 1 amp.

My problem is, I don't know what the hell that value was. I do have a copy of the schematics.....

HELP!!!

Take it to someone who specializes in vintage audio gear. You probably do have something that went bad in one channel. Often, when one component goes, it takes out several other components too. Now that your dad put an oversized fuse in it, it probably damaged even more.

Best bet for that old amp is a full restore. Re-cap the whole amp, fix the problems, and adjust for proper output.

You might also want to check around over at Audiokarma.org. They have an extensive Sansui following over there and there are several repair technicians who are members there and could possibly offer advice.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Perfect!! Appreciate the quick responses. I actually just called a local place and they were going to charge me $30 to look at it....didn't think that was too bad. They were one of the only places I've found that works on Sansui.

If I get this up and running, it would be perfect for a 2-channel rig!!

    $30 is cheap;)
Leave the cover off, and blow that thing out with some air. The less they have to play with, and some cleaning shows you care.

$30 to look at it, not to fix it.

$30 to diagnose the problem and tell me whats wrong with it. But as others stated, I'll probably have them re-cap the whole thing.

I figured you knew that already-I can't tell you how many times, way back in the day, when I worked the tech shop at CUSA, how many customers thought the diags charge would be all that was required to fix it.

$30 is still cheap for a diagnoses. I had price quote of $200 for a old Proceed CDP.
