Denon Firmware Upgrades

G'day all,

Thought I'd share this with you. I updated to the very latest firmware available over the net, for my AVR3808. When it found the update, it advised approximately 70 minutes to complete.

I got to within 5 minutes of completion, and then it proceeded no further. This was at 12:55am Saturday morning, and it states everywhere do not power off the unit while it is completing an upgrade - it had locked up at this point. I tried the ring around when it was a more respectable hour, but as it was a weekend, I couldn't get any assistance. I had to leave the unit in the upgrade mode, with the same display over the weekend, until around 11:00am today, when I received a call back.

The tech advised that this does happen from time to time, and you CAN turn the unit off at the Master On/ Off switch. I wasn't home at the time, but called the wife and asked her to hit that switch until I got home later. The unit was quite warm while in the upgrade mode for those 48 or so hours, so I was glad to switch it off. The tech also said to leave it off for at least a minute - not an issue in my case.

When I got home tonight, fired it up and all was good. He advised to check for the upgrade again and continue with it, which it showed only 4 minutes remaining, so it had saved the previous upgrade from Friday night. All went through smooth as silk this afternoon and we are back on track.

Just thought I'd share this, as you hear all too often that if something fails during an upgrade process, it can render the unit as useless - obviously not the case with these Denons. Not sure how it would go on the other brands, but it is obviously all OK to do with the Denon units.

Cheers.

    Hi haimoc,

Here in Oz, the featured updates are $150 AUD, so nothing free on this occasion.

My upgrades fixed certain errors - ie - the LFE didn't work properly when I first got the reciever and the internet radio tuner sometimes froze when switching to another source.

If your Denon doesn't have an ethernet port or a wireless connection to the internet; Tthen you will need to take it to a dealer......

If there is nothing wrong with yours though....rock on......

After moving - I got to set up my system all over again - and I split it into two - click the link in my sig:cool:

If you are buying a denon 3808 that has no upgrades done to it - the LFE channel does not work properly. Don't fret though - it is easily fixed with the firmware upgrades over the Cat5 internet connection in the back.

I just spent the weekend enjoying how much cleaner it is to set up your system using the LFE out.....and not running your speaker wire through the sub's crossover. The bass is more powerful and controlled.

All weekend my fiance was telling me - "Turn it down" but I was listenning to the Diva in the movie - The Fifth Element - and it was awesome loud........so I had her sit next to me and listen - she agreed.........
