Hsu ULS-15 or "Sealed Subs Rule"

Due to space limitations and set up flexibility I decided to check out the Hsu ULS-15 subwoofer.

My Dual SVS subs (PB Ultra/2 and Plus/2) are just too large to fit in my new HT space and since I was familiar with HSU having previously owned an Outlaw Audio LFM-1, I decided to check them out.

Boy am I glad I did. These subs sound terrific. Granted they do not have as much SPL as two SVS behemoths with dual 12" drivers but they more than make up for it in the depth ( and they go deep- they are flat to as low as my SMS-1 screen goes) and quality of the bass provided - smooooth, quick and responsive with plenty of HT slam depending upon the room size starting with the Dual drive set up. I decided on the Quad to even out my bass response and to give me the extra slam I am addicted to although the Dual drive was probably more than adequate in my room. (I am spoiled. So sue me.):D

As it stands now I have only 3 set up as the fourth arrives tomorrow. They are banging. The Incredible Hulk Blu Ray almost brought down my house.
I expect with the arrival of the fourth to have a broadened sweet spot and to lower the gains a bit on all four ( right now the 3 are set at half).

Anyway I can't imagine going back to ported now. The ULS-15 is a very nice sub.

Damn! I'm speechless. You got the ultimate sub setup.

I've been sayin' for years that for the true HT experience, ya gotta have several subs. With the quad option and the wireless system, Hsu has once again raised the bar.

    Enjoy 'em, wing.

Was there a wait time with HSU? I have been subless for a while waiting on Epik to FINALLY have my sub ready. 6 weeks and counting.

How is that wireless feature working out? Do you see any signal delays?

Sometimes. yes but only if I have the phone close to the subwoofer. Even the PS3 remote or wireless controllers, if I put them close to the subs they will make a slight pop until I put them back on the couch. The Uls-15 have 4 different frequency channels and I have them set on channel one. I never tried the other channels to see if the interference is still there because it's not really a problem...but now that I think of it, I will try it out and let you know.

What exactly made you want to get rid of the Danley or think you need more bass? Just curious... I was thinking about that Danley couch sub to hide behind my plasma buffet stand.

Awesome!!!! :D My room is kinda difficult so I just tried to box my seating area in with each sub as equal as possible in distance from the listening position. The R rear one is a bit out there but I have geography issues.

mikec78: the danley tapped horns performance is stellar 20Hz and up. i want something that will go lower...RMK on the avs has the danley SPUD, he is very happy with it.

apphd: lol...that will be on the back burner for awhile :o

ron: i was talking to ivan/mike about the SPUD for a bit...then i bought/paid in full for a seaton terraform xl - it was quite a wait, i cancelled and wanted to get a powered danley th50...changed my mind again and got 4 uls, will be here dec01. curious how the sq compares to the dts20 20Hz and up.

Just an update with regards to the wireless signal. I had to change my wireless internet channel to prevent interference of the subs and the wireless router. You may have to fiddle a bit with the channel settings on them depending upon what wireless gear or equipment you have nearby but changing the actual channel on my router has worked best. I have an Apple Airport.

    That's good to know.

I tried a pair of Acoustic Research wireless rear speakers and they were awful with interference. Anybody with a cell phone that walked into the room made those things go crazy!!!
