Speakers have resistance that is measured in ohms. If 2 4ohm speakers are wired together in parallel on a single channel, it will look like 2 ohms to your amp.

In this case, you need an amp rated to run at 2 ohms.

This is a sparse/simple answer to a more complex situation, but I hope it helps.

wire 'em in series, and they're an 8-ohm load.

I vote for a 4 channel amp so you can control the output of each speaker.

I think you should just get a 4-channel amp. I think it would sound better. I never like to run my "full-range" speaker at 2 ohms. The THD (total harmonic distortion) is generally a lot higher at 2ohm vs 4ohm

does this also apply to 2x channels amps

Im not sure if i created confusion.. but im trying to get 2(pairs) of speakers that are at 4 ohms.. (a total of 4 speakers... but like 2 pairs)... could i run them with a 2 ohm load from the amp?

You can run them from a 2 channel amp, but again, you don't have any balance control between them.

I assume that the 6X9s are rears and the 6.5s are fronts. This setup needs a way to balance/fade between them, and separate amp channels for each speaker is the best way to accomplish this.

so i would need a 4 channel amp ... at how many ohms each channel? 4?

Any 4 ohm rated amp will do. Most car amps are rated to 4 ohms since most car speakers are 4 ohm. An amp rated for 2 ohms or lower is typically an indication of solid build quality since the lower load requires the amp to make more power.

Here is MY rule of thumb for car audio:
-All of my components I run in 4ohm - If the amp is 4 channels, I would be powering 4 - 4ohm speakers. They generally don't need as much power (but you do want clean power)

-With subs, I usually like to bridge them as they need a lot more power. Distortion is harder to hear with subs (car audio) so running an amp at 2ohms usually fits the bill quite nice.
