time to replace my Pioneer VSX-817s?

I've got a system with RTI6s, CSI5, and R50s in back. I'm running it all through a Pioneer VSX 817-S and I'm pretty sure the thing needs to go.
I got this receiver from my brother. According to Pioneers website:
Surround Power 220 Watts Total System Power - 110 watts x 2 (20 Hz - 20kHz .7% THD @ 8 Ohms)
Channels 770 Watts Total System Power - 110 watts x 7 (1kHz .9% THD @ 8 Ohms)
I get Channels with 770 watts but what does surround power mean? Also I recognize the THD is pretty damn ugly. Should I get something like the VSX-918V-S?
Thoughts? I need something cheap that is going to sound good for music.

..Well I would like to be able to spend 700 or so on a 01 model but I am looking for something more budget. Anything quality that costs around 300 or so?

As Kex said, HK offers excellent receivers with very good power at a reasonable price.
Also try HK's direct refurb store on ebay, called harmanaudio. You can get some great deals on receivers. I bought my 235 from them.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235
Mains: polk R30
Center: polk CSi3
Rear Surrounds: polk R20
Subwoofer: polk PSW404
DVD: Panasonic DVD-S29 -
