Well nothing crazy but i got my rti28 today from kuntasensei
and am yet to wire it up, actually i had a center for my rear center but it was a infinity 6 years old and i sold it off because i wanted matching polks back there.. Today later i will hang this one and run the spl meter on it.. I already have the wire ran from last time just have to plug up the speaker end and the receiver and turn it on in the OSD, anyways i loved 6.1 and have missed it alot.. couple times it has made me jump out my seat with the effects of the movie behind my neck. I have the couch up against the back wall and the speaker is actually above your head and gets ya everytime on the 'scary" movies. rooms to small or i would have the seating out a bit.. works good though

If you ahve a 7.1 receiver, why not go all the way, (7.1)? I have denon 7.1 and I love it.

Because my room is way to small, I could have very well got 2 speakers but unless you have a room larger then what i have 10x12' then its over kill and you can't properly place the speakers, it works great for my size room

And thats fine, however i want to be able to tell the difference between the surrounds and the rear center and not just hear a big bunch of noise, so where would you propose you put sides and backs with 10 foot across of space?? the surrounds would be on the side walls and the rear centers would be what 1-2 feet apart, plus my receiver powers 6 channels and that would require a 2 channel amp to get the 2 surround backs working. Instead i already have a receiver that powers 3 fronts and 3 rears.. Its not a matter of if i could get the 2 speakers or not. I didn't want them, and i got a new rti28 never used in plastic for 80 bucks.. retails for $139.00 new at CC... so thats it

faster, I believe that if you have it use. But in your case your are right. My room is 12' across and two speakers would be an overkill. My 6.1 sounds just right. When I get a bigger room 16' to 20' then I will go 7 channel.

exactly, i to will utilize 7.1 when we either buy a new house, or this one and build our theater room we want. until then 6.1 will do, also if my room were bigger my 28's would be replaced with atleast rti38's or towers... in the rear

The RTI28's are great speakers for surround. Up front I've got RTI38's and a CSI30. My side surrounds are RTI28's and I've got M3's for back surrounds for a full 7.1 setup. I plan to eventually get two more RTI28's to replace the M3's. In my 16'X14' room I notice a much fuller surround sound with the back surrounds on then when they are off.
    My 7.1 setup consists of:
    Denon 3803
    Panasonic DVD
    RTi70s front
    CSi40 front center
    RTi28s side surround
    FXi30s back surround
PSW202 Subwoofer - Hey, it's my first sub!
    RCA 46" 4:3 RPTV

Agree with RTi28's being great surround speakers. I have them for surrounds myself for 6.1 - RTi38's front, CSi40/CSi30 center/rear center. Can't beat the free CSi30 and half the price CSi40 in lieu of the free subs Polk promo. I don't like Polk subs anyway - already have HSU-VTF2.

fort: How much better is the CSI40 compared to the CSI30? I have the CSI30 and I am happy with it but the CSI40 has the same size woofers as the RTI38's that I have and so it may be a better match. The CSI40 was two hundred more than the CSI30 so I did not buy it but I may want to take advantage of the CC trade-up program in a year.

I have had the csi30 and the csi40 currently, the 30 is just as nice as the 40 but the csi40 can be bi-wire (dual wired) and had power ports on each woofer, and also has larger drivers.. Its a better speaker no doubt and also suitable for a larger room or small.. I would say it has more options and over sound is similiar. I got mine because it was a steal at 240.00 and after i sold my cs400 for the same price it didn't cost me a dime... I say if you can swing it get it, but i'f you can't the 30 is still a good choice.. i'f we were talking about the csi20 that would be a different story.. thats why i choosea rti28 for my rear center.. didn't want to have that cheap speaker (csi20) and didn't want the 200 buck big ol csi30 hanging behind my head on the couch

jkratzer: I used my CSi30 as front center for one month before getting the CSi40. The CSi30 sounds muffled at medium to high volume (for an 11'x13' room at least). The CSi40 timbre-matches the 38's better. Single wired sounded close to CSi30 except for better mid and low frequencies. Bi-wired opened up the sound stage. Dialogues and effects have never been better. The 38's may not be the best mains for CSi40, but matching up with good subs does the job.

BTW this is an upgrade from the RT??i series. IMO the old RT??i's are too bright with Oinks. But the CS245i is better than the CSi30 for never sounding muffled. It must be the enclosure. CSi30 is wider, but CS245i is taller, narrower and heavier, plus other factors.

I have never heard a polk speaker muffled,ie: the csi30 or RT15's, or cs245,rti28's.. all of which i have owned.. Its your opinion and ears that have to do the decideing. anything in polks line that cost more is usually better, center and bookshelf wise anyways.. The 40 is better but the 30 is fine, your ears will decide

Faster and Fort: Thanks to both of you. I guess I'll stop by the CC listening room and compare both the CSI30 and CSI40. I love my CSI30 but I need to hear the difference, if any, for myself.
