A "Wow!" Moment

Tonight I was listening to some vocal acoustics and jazz and I was really enjoying the sound. What struck me most were the periodic subtle sounds that seem to come from all over the place, including the adjacent rooms. It's difficult to explain, but it's kinda like when you're watching a movie on your HT system and there's a scene where a phone rings, and for a split second you're actually looking around for your phone. I had a few of those moments.
Every now and then the system produced sounds that sneak up on you. It's like when you think you hear someone walking around your house or when you feel footsteps near you. It's surround sound with 2-channel. Or perhaps it's paranoia. Either way, it's very .

I know exactly what you're talking about-Happens so often. Its especially cool when its something that could actually be from the environment around you such as a bird singing or a dog barking in a movie when its a nice day outside. You have to do a double take to be sure.
Tonight while watching WS Game 1 (Go Phillies) in the beginning I clearly heard what sounded like a music box or a kids musical toy or something. I'd mute and it stopped-I could have sworn my kids left something on upstairs, but no it was definitely in the game/broadcast. Took several Mutes to convince the rest of the folks in the room that it was from the speakers and not upstairs. Then my wife said she didn't hear it on the TV upstairs-I attribute that to the TV upstairs being the TV speakers in an old CRT, and the one downstairs-well my HT rig. I told her 'see, you just don't know the sounds you're missing until you get good gear' :D____________________

Brad, I know what you mean, I have actually "jumped" when playing a tune that I'm familar with and BAM, a sound, voice, etc,(that I was not expecting) just comes out of nowhere,,, now this really happened to me last night,,,I came home from work,,,swapped power cables in the Dodd, and replaced the tubes in it as well(I'm bored),,so my wife and I are watching "criminal minds" in 2 channel and she says,,did you hear that?,,,what, what,,? I ask,,she said (I'm serious here),,"it sounds like someone just farted, right outside of our window" ,,who knows,,must have been something on the disc,,, which brings us back to "who says cables don't make a difference;).
Back to sleep--georgeJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -
Yeah, it's pretty neat, but not artificial like HT. It's like what you would hear during a live performance. It's like being enveloped in the soundstage, even at low listening levels. Of course, I've noticed it for years on previous setups, but now it's more prominent. The difference is that the music feels like it's going right through you, so you feel it and hear it. I dunno. Hard to explain.
My guess is that the bass has improved and it is much more natural, which contributes to these effects. I put on some bass heavy music the other day and was astonished at what I heard. I've had my speakers for two years and couldn't believe the level of bass they were pumping out. I didn't think my speakers were capable of going as low as they were going. I'm lovin' it!HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I like to listen to tunes I was familiar with, and now that I have a decent rig it is real neat to hear stuff I never heard before:)
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Every time i listen to "The Wall" I hear new little sounds I didn't pick up on before. The baby's cry will bring a mother running every time.

Early, what was the recording?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Happens to me a lot when I am watching a movie and I hear a door knock. Kinday creepy and cool at the same time

Early, what was the recording?

I forget what recording I was listening to... it might've been Pink Floyd DSOTM. Anyway, I'm sitting there enjoying the soundstage on my SDAs with my cat sitting next to me. On the one track, there's a man's voice that comes in from the far left, well beyond the speaker... I knew it was coming, but my cat didn't... She jumped, stared at the thin air, then jumped off the couch and stood there trying to figure out just what made that noise!
That's how you know your SDA's are workingLudicrous gibs! -
There are a few tracks from Tool that do that very well.
The SRT's I heard at Polkfest did a great job of placing instruments a few feet to the outside of the speakers, which is impressive on it's own, but I didn't hear anything from the side walls."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Everytime I upgrade and add something it seems to add to my newly found OCD for audio. For me, last night I had my cherry popped, lol. I was listening to a song I have heard a gazillion times and I had hairs standing on my arms and I got chills. The only way to describe it is......It kinda felt like falling in love for the first time. There really are no words to describe it, something you have to experience first hand. I can only say that I look forward to more of those moments in my audio journey. WOW!!!!

It's those moments that remind all of us to take a break from listening critically and just relax. I'm convinced that is when the true value of music and what it can do for our souls is at its most wonderous.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))
