I had seen the ad for these really old (!) speakers on craigslist and then googled into this forum looking for info.

I am glad I did- its been a revelation, so thank you for everyone for all the informational posts here and I am glad I decided to get these speakers.

On mine, one of the tweeters doesnt respond, so I cant really judge the soundstage yet- vocals seem to come from one side. But even then, I am amazed by the clarity. Its going to be a wait for the new tweeters, but hey its going to get even better!

I am going to be ordering the RD0 replacements today, should I order the polyswitches too ? I would rather have them in place in case I ever get the volume too high.

I liked these speakers so much that I went and bought the jolida tube amp- I am loving this!

Don't forget to mention you are a Club Polk Member for the discount.
Welcome, and enjoy. PS Polk will most likely give you new Poly switches.

Polk doesnt have the polyswitches any more. The part numbber is PTC1.35, its a 1.35 thermistor (forgot to ask what the unit is for the 1.35). The associate was rather friendly and said that she'll send a copy of the manual if she can locate one.

BTW, the regular price for the tweeters is 60$, you get them at 48$ if you mention club-polk membership.

Wiating for the tweeters to arrive now!

Thats the Joilda 801a integrated amp. 70W per channel into 8 ohms, not sure how much into 4. Doesnt have a phono input tho- I ordered the bellari tube phono stage.

I had initially thought of using a tube preamp with my adcom 555 amp, but since this is an integrated, I dont have to get separates, also I can sell off my adcoms (I have some 4 amps) and use that to get a CD player perhaps. Any suggestions there ? Right now I am using a toshiba with transport with a art di/o as external dac.

The other option that I considered was the bottlehead foreplay preamp that gets very good reviews- 489$ unassembled kit that apparently rivals the best stuff. Next project perhaps!

artinaz- What amps do you have to sell? I've been thinking about upping the juice to my SDA2's.
    Ludicrous gibs!

    Thank you George, Harry, Engtaz

BTW, could someone please comment on changing the tweeters ? I know that its a fairly simple procedure and doesnt involve soldering- so do i just need to crimp the ends ?

Also, the top and the bottom boards are loose on my speakers, is there an easy way to fix that ? I dont see an easy way of taking the cabinet apart.

    Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your SRS 2's Art!

You will need to remove the passive radiator and top two drivers to tighten the nuts that retain the boards. (One in each corner). Just be careful as there are gaskets on the passive radiator/drivers. Mark the wires to the drivers so they can be reconnected properly. (There are no wires connected to the lower passive radiator). And don't overtighten the screws upon reassembly or they will pull the threads out of the wood.;)

I just changed one on my SRS and the tweeter was NOT marked for pos or neg. ALSO, hang onto the wires. They can go a long way down inside the cabinet when you pull them off. LOL! (OOPS, CRAP). They "fish" out easy with a coat hanger but...Well, don't drop them.
    Again, Very nice.

Thank you for the tip Lasareth, I had ben wondering if the oxidation on the drivers would indicate damage, your mail is comforting- its just cosmetic then. It'll help to get them looking better- I am in favour of listening to these beauties with the the grill off- my current ones are tad dirty and coming undone in places.

HB27, looks like your mod is moving at a fair pace. How do you like your new tweeters? Keep us updated of your progress- especially if you do the x-over mod, would love to get the parts list. I do have the schematics, but the tolerance values of the parts would be great. Good luck!

When I have the time, I think I will put together a check list so that newer owners could get it at one place. There is a lot of information on this forum and people have also been helpful in sending in suggestions.
