LSI7 as Rear Surrounds

Anyone here using the LSI 7's as rear surround speakers? I currently have the LSI 15's and LSI 'C, but am using an older Polk surround speaker for the rears. I have a long wall on either side but the back wall is a good 40' from the rear of the couch. I was thinking that direct speakers in the rear, like LSI7's might be a good fit. Comments?

The 7's are a good fit as surrounds. I've used them and they do a good job.Do you plan on mounting them on the wall? I haven't heard the lsi fx's but I'm sure they will would great as well. I run RTI di/bi pole speaker on my rears and they sounded better than the bookshelfs did only because of the angled cabinet and my room configuration. The bookshelf speakers will sound better for music if you ever listen to all stereo music.

LSi7's work great as rear surrounds, however I'm not sure any rear surround is going to be effective on a rear wall 40' away. Is there anyway to move them forward? I have mine on stands, but the rear wall is only about 24' away.

I have your exact setup (15's, C and 7's) and they sound great.

If my room was more condusive, I would like to try the LSiFX speakers, but they just will not work as well in my current room - I have not regretted getting the 7's at all.

If you have any more specific questions, just ask.

Edit - just noticed the 40' away thing. Have you thought about towers (another pair of 15's may work well) and putting them a little closer?

I have a pair of LSi9's as surround back speakers about 22 inches away from the couch, and it adds extra surround effects. Even if they were farther away from your center listening position, I think, the calibration process will compensate for the distance. But since there are not much sound effect load from the back speakers, LSi7's would suffice to do the work without any problems. I am using 26 inch Sanus Ultimate speaker stands for extra sturdiness.

Thanks for the replies. I should have specified that I would like to mount them on the side walls 3-4 feet behind the couch, not on the back wall. Looks like it's time to get the wallet out. :)

    Thanks again.

If going on side walls, LSiFX may be a better choice for you.

just something to consider before you purchase. 7's are great but both have there plce as rear surrounds depending on your situation.

I had LSi7s as rears until I upgraded them to LSi15s. The 7s work great, but the 15s are even better.

Some AVRs will not allow you to set the rear speakers further away from the listening position than the mains. ...
