Shipping by Freight

My parents got a really smokin' deal on a wine cooler for my birthday, brand new. Unfortunately, they are in GA and I'm in AZ. It's still in its factory packaging so it should be ready to load on the truck.

So here's what I want to know:

1) It's basically 2ft x 2ft x 3ft and 100lbs. Is it too big to go Fedex or UPS ground/freight to a commercial address?

2) If I need to go with a freight company, should it be on a pallet?

3) What would be a good estimate on the cost? Based on the amps shipped recently, I'm guessing around $100, commercial address to commercial address. Am I way off base on that estimate? The zip codes are from 30180 to 85658.

4) Does anyone have any contacts? I'm not looking for a deal necessarily, just some guidance using freight or someone to make sure we get it right the first time.

Thanks for any insights and info and help!
Wes

UPS will do it for just under $100 from GA to you.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

Will UPS keep it pointed up so the freon doesn't get into other areas of the cooling system?

I have no idea, but if you let it sit over night the freon will have more than enough time to settle.

150lbs is the cut-off for Fedex when you have to go "freight." Your fridge could go standard ground with fedex.

Wes, If Dad can find a small pallet to strap it to, they'd have to keep it up-right. Just a thought...

Just drive there, pick it up, and drive back. That should only take... a few days :D

That thought occurred to me too. I'll have to talk to him and see how much he wants to put into it on his side.

If I had the extra vacation that wasn't allocated for other trips and good foot....

A few days is generous, especially if I'm traveling solo!

First thing that I would do is call FedEx to ask specifically.

The other thing that I would do is to go to a shipping company and buy some corner adhesive device that basically has glass pellets that sit at the bottom and if the item is tipped or turned upside down, the pellets get flipped to the top section which has adhesive in it so when you get it you can see exactly if the item was shipped upside down/sideways.

Unfortunately, i think you have to send something by Freight in order to make sure that you don't end up with that type of situation, but i don't know what the cost difference is between standard FedEx and their freight rates...........

The other thing that I would make VERY clear from the parents is to ask if the 'factory packaging' is sufficient to ship or not. A lot of times, that stuff is cheap **** because they are pallet shipping the stuff so the boxes don't have to take a lot of abuse. Also, there's glass pretty close to the box, so is there padding in front so you don't end up with a shattered door?

    Good luck...........
