I have a Macbook Pro and I would like to get PC functionality on it. I am tired of not being able to download updates etc..because I don't have a PC. I know that there is a way with Parallels etc but if I get that and download Windows XP will I have all the functional capabilities of a PC also? Like could I run Flac and download firmware updates? Open up word documents and so on?
TIA

I use "FLACer" on my mac for audio files.
There is a Mac version of Office (Word,Excel, etc) as well as Mac software called "Pages"
I download updates all the time with my mac. Most recently a firmware upgrades for Samsung LCD and Garmin GPS.

Now, I also do use Parallel for a Mac at the office so I can use UPS WorldShip software. It is very easy to use and with a hot key I can switch from one platform to the other.

    Hope this helps

    Darla,

I run VMWare Fusion 2.0 on my MBP to run Windows XP Service Pack 3. I don't know Flac, but all my MS OFFICE functionalities works great, as if it is a PC. I can also run Unity (a VMWare Fusion feature) that allows me to share files between the two OSs (i.e. pics, movies, etc.) within a shared folder.

Amazon sells Fusion 1.0 for about $40 (after $20 rebate), and then you can download 2.0 from VMWare directly for free.

So far, I have not missing functionalities on the software. The only hiccup I have is when I am trying to sync my Windows Mobile ATT Tilt with my MS Outlook (it is a known issue with Fusion, it's more to do with virtual sharing of the USB port with Windows XP internet port).
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I"m not a Mac-head, but yes. Not supposed to "download" XP, but we won't go into that here.;)
Install XP under Parallels, and it's XP when you want it on your Mac. I don't know what firmware updates you mean, either.
Of course, you either have to have a P.C. version of Word or Office installed to open .docs, or there's free Word-viewers.
There'll be slight hardware issues because of the touchpad and 1-touch bar, but those and the keyboard are configurable.
