....But I finally got my SDA's. Been spending the last day listening to the pair of SDA 1B's i wanted 20 years back. Still have to original brochures for them. Finally got them, and I am loving them. Had to swap out some 6 inch drivers, but otherwise it works fine. Hooked them up without the cable, and they were nothing special. Not bad, but nothing special. Man, what a difference that cable makes. EVERYTHING got better!

So, now rebuilds and mods are gonna be the order of the day. Thought I saw a thread here somewhere on redoing the crossovers. Sounds like a good plan. Probably a new set of tweeters would work well too.

Maybe some real veneer on the outside?

Anyhow, I'm having lots of fun with these!

Here is a link to the diagrams.

The upgrade is fairly easy. Just do one at a time;) Replace all the caps, and resistors and they will be better than new. Plenty of people are here to help. You might even find a Polkie who is nearby to help with the mods.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the link!
Wish I could do a search for SDA. Save a lot of grief!
Sadly, not too many Polkies in the Great White North, it seems.... :(

There are actually few up there. I don't know if they have SDA's but some are pretty handy.

Near enough a week of listening and I gotta say I am happy as a pig in ....

These are some seriously nice speakers. Now the upgrades are gonna start happening. I was gonna do crossovers first, but it looks like that will make the tweeters sound much nastier, so swapping the tweeters may be the first step.

Anyone actually re-veneered a pair of these?

Not these exactly, but here is the link for my veneered monitor 10's.

Re-veneering my studio 1C's is on my list, but there are several other projects in front of them.....

Hi Bigerik, are you happy enough to sell your......;)

Actually I signed up at this forum after responding to a craigslist ad. (SRS 3.1TL and NAD 2400 for $400) I'm second in line, but in this case it will probably be close but no cigar - the first guy is going to look tomorrow and I assume he will buy them if they are working well.

Hope I am not hijacking your thread or worse Bigerik - but when I check ads for used speakers the first thing I look for is a certain speaker from the north - preferably in piano black (ya right) - but I'd settle for plain black in a pinch.

So a question if you don't mind -

    1. How do the SRS compare to the 22 RC's?

    cheers

RC's? Long since gone, so I really can't say much in the way of comparison. However, so far, I like the sound of the SDA's MUCH more. The bass performance in particular works much better in my room.
    Stay tuned for more! :)

I missed out on the 2.3's :( but maybe something else will come along - look forward to hearing more about your experience with your precious :)
