Subwoofer pops

Hello,

For some reason my subwoofer makes a loud popping sound when I turn up the volume, while watching a blue-ray movie and there is an explosion, or gun fight scene.

Is this what people call clipping? Did I blow out my subwoofer?

I usually do not push my system very loud. I never notice it while watching from my directv (Dolby Digital).

Any ideas? When I listen to CDs on the same blu-ray player and crank it up, the subwoofer sounds great, no popping.

Thanks guys,

Lonwa

no, only during loud explosions or gun fights... power on its fine.

It is not always consistent either.

I guess it could be some sort of overload/clipping. Would you be happy using the sub at a volume that is below the "popping" level? Whatever the noise it, it can't be good for your sub.

i don't believe I have a subsonic filter set. To be honest I don't know what that is.

    Sorry

That's the sub bottoming out. Back off on the gain a little - it's not good for your sub.
