Height/Placement Questions

Hi
I currently am setting up my system and am completely new to this.
So far I have
Lsi-9's as Fronts
Lsi-C as Center
Lsi-Fx as Back Surrounds (2 of them for 5.1)
mated to an Onkyo 805 (will be arriving shortly)

I was debating getting two Lsi-9 or 7's to make it 7.1

The issue is I can mount two speakers on the rear walls (around 6' was the placement that seemed to be recommended) but can't do anything for the sides (one side is open while the other has a window). Also my couch is right against the wall and the room is 15' deep and 26' across with a third of that being the dining area.

Options I'd like your opinion on
1) I could mount two speakers on the rear walls at 6' (the LSI Fx or just get rid of them and get LSi-7/9) sticking to 5.1 (dipole vs bipole?). Should they be set to bipole or dipole or should I get rid of them and get two lsi 7/9 on stands pointing them towards each other. If I mount the LSI Fx I can't tilt them because of the keyhole mount. Also should the LSI Fx be on the edges of the sofa, giving the left one about 3' from the window/wall or closer together

2) I could mount two speakers on the rear walls at 6' and put two on 30" stands on the side. If I put the LSI Fx on the sides I couldn't find any decent stands that had a big enough plate to match the speaker footprint. What is commonly used? Would the height mismatch be a big deal? If the 7/9 are mounted they could be tilted down (saw a tiltable B-Tech wall mount)

3) The center has to be on the table (10" high) b/c of the pull down projector screen, I was planning on getting 16" stands for the fronts to approximately match the height. What stands would you guys recommend?
Also I could put the center on a wallmount at the same height, get an extra 16" stand, put it in the closet and pull it out when using the projector :D

Hi :) Welcome to Polkie land!

For surrounds, do not use full towers. Instead use surrounds mounted up on the walls or on speaker stands. Because the towers are infact towers, the projected sound field will have to pass through furniture/obstacles thus obfuscating the sound field.

My advice is to purchase a matching pair of LSi FX for a balanced and unified sound field for the surround field.

    RTi10 l/r front
    CSi5 center
Atrium 45 (four for the surrounds.)

Can you go in-ceiling or in-wall?

I would agree ear level. Hey i have the same speaks which you posted, and the same room with your layout. I myself wanted two side speakers but would not go for the stand on one side. I have the center under the big screen and of course two fronts. The surrounds are behind the couch, i would say just above ear level. Now i would have wanted more room behind my couch no can do. Over all i am quite pleased with the speakers, and of course my system. Good luck with yours.

Hey mudgod I am sorry i forgot to mention my stands. They are Sanus stands. They have a large base and they are heavy duty. They work well with the 9's and my center. Hope this helps.
