the price is attractive. how's the sound on this thing? a lot of reviews on the net about the earlier series, but they all lack depth. as in they say the sounds good, its bang for the buck, etc, but nothing really in-depth. for one, does it really sound like its rated 10hz-50,000hz (+0db, -3db) response? that puts it in $1000+ amp territory.
another thing: those reviewers seem to have used it as an integrated amp, but it's designated as a "power amp", and yeah some power amps did come out sporting volume control and the like, but i haven't seen an integrated amp with volume knobs THAT small. does this mean its primarily a power amp, and I can use my preamp with it?

A friend recently brought home the earlier rev, the Amp 300. Same specs it looks to me. He really likes the amp better than a couple of Marantz M500 monos driving his 4 ohm GR Research AV-2s. That said, he paid $140 on clearance and for that it's a no brainer. $400 seems a tad steep for an Audiosource product and I own one myself.
Combo rig:
Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE -
yeah, $400 might seem steep but it's the payment scheme that looked good to me. if I can get it at that deal then the ready cash I have could be put towards a Premier P880RS for my car, as my trusty 860mp is having issues with its analog outputs and panel mechanism already.

It is a power amp. The volume knobs are gainpots on the back of the amp.
The front gives you a balance fader and a volume knob for 18 dB worth. Enough to boost if you're playing radio and turn down if you're playing compressed TV.
I've got the amponeA myself, and it's a great amp for the price. Actually, I have 2 oh them. Sounds great, decent outputs transistors and power supply. The board on mine is not printed pcb, almost handmade -

I believe the spec is < 0.1% THD.
I've got 2 Amp Three's running bridged. I believe this was their first 150 w/ch amp, going back around 10 years. I took a chance and bought refurbs at $160 each. I have no complaints or regrets.
I also have an Amp One/A, which is a nice little 80 w/ch amp (or 200 w bridged).
Another option, if you have the rack space is to get 2 Amp One/A's and run them bridged as 200 watt mono amps. They can be found for under $150 new.
Audiosource amps, in general, are a very good value, although reliability issues come up if you read up on the newer models.
You could also find a used Adcom, Parasound, or Rotel in the $400 range.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. In my experience, Audiosource equipment is pretty neutral and straight forward. It doesn't have huge amounts of depth or musicality, but I enjoyed them while I had them. I would favor them for HT over 2 channel.
