Quick HDMI cable comparison

Hey all,
I am not a big audio or video expert, and I don't really believe in the bla bla… so here is goes.

I purchased a Monoprise HDMI cable:
HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Silver-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) - 10ft (Gold Plated Connectors).
Here is the link:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024004&p_id=3659&seq=1&format=2

I also purchase an HDMI cable made by Panasonic.
Panasonic RP-CDHG30 High Speed HDMI Cable - 9.8ft (White)
Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-CDHG30-High-Speed-Cable/dp/B000G62F88/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I25EZ468Z3SUKY&colid=2FPULQ8TGGCX1

The Monoprise is $23.85
The Panasonic is $33.79

A quick comparison, the Monoprise looks and feels very well made, is almost twice as thick as the Panasonic. The panasonic look like a regular cable
They both supposed to be 1.3a capable
Both cables are category 2, and support Bandwidth: up to 340 Mhz
The Panasonic cable has three other specs which the Monoprise did not mentioned
1. The Panasonic cable is rated high speed
2. The Panasonic cable supports 10.2Gbps
3. The Panasonic supports 8-16bit 1080p for video and sound.

The test I performed is a very simple one, I put connected an upscale dvd player and a TV that support 1080i. I did not test the sound capabilities because I don’t own a receiver that has HDMI.
The main differences in video are:
The Panasonic has a bit more resolution in the colors (colors look brighter), when there is movement in the movie the Monoprise was not able to keep up, the Monoprise gives blurred action, with the panasonic the movement is generated as it supposed to be and you get not fuzzines or blurr. I also notice the Monoprise gives a more grainy picture than the Panasonic.

Well that is it I hope this is helpful to anyone looking for an hdmi cable.

When it comes to HDMI cables its just 1's and 0's, cable quaily may have a difference, but sound/video should be the same all day. Nice write up though.

HDMI cable errors show up as dropouts and sparklies, not blurring of motion or color and brightness differences.

I use Bluejean HDMI BJC Belden Series-1 Bonded-Pair Cable, and I have to admit I do like the build quality of them. And you dont spend a fortune for them either.

Olilugo, none of the effects that you report can be due to the HDMI cable. If an HDMI cable has signal losses too high for length of the run involved this will appear as electronic noise or sparkles in the picture, not the effects that you mention. For a short 10' run such as was involved in your case a 24ga cable is more than sufficient and even a 28ga cable would work well. Your review undoubtedly was well-intentioned, but it's misleading to possible future purchasers.

There's nothing misleading about his first hand experience. What's misleading is your 2 cents as you have no experience with the cables he used.

thanks for your review its always shows well when someone reports what they actually heard or saw with any audio gear or wire, nothing like emperical data.

dont take the self-crowned know it alls here to seriously, they have an inner need to expound their spin and shout it from a mountain top.

    Thanks all,
My intention was not to misslead anyone to purchase one hdmi cable over the other.
It was simple comparison between two cables I happend to purchase. I think these two cables are affordable enough that their price difference is amost not a point since I had to pay shipping for the one I bought from monoprise.
I was just curious about the monoprise cable since everyone gives good feedback about their product.

As I stated in my original thread (at least I think I did), I am not an authority on sound nor video, nor did I perform a scientific test on both cables. I really just plug them in and I used the same chapter in the movie to compare both cables.

I don't claim to know why I saw bluriness or why one of the cables seam to have sharper (better greens, better blues, … you get the point) colors.
I will not specualte, since I don’t know what is making it happen.

Well I feel you did a fine job in comparing what you seen, and what was used. It was to me you seen the difference of the construction of the two cables that is all.

That's fascinating. It might be interesting to see if someone can buy say, 5 or 6 brands of HDMI cables (rated the same), and do a review themselves, plus allow a demo group to start for individual testing on your equipment. Then people can see the differences themselves and write about what equipment that had hooked up to everything.
