Hey guys,

I know this dosent pertain to polk, but i thought some of you could help me out anyways. I recently aquired a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch 10" subs in a double box, for free because a friend's dad gave them to me. The model is 1810, and their max power is 400, with an RMS of 200. (they were made in 1997)

Will these subs give decent sound?? They are free, remember... so will they even sound good? Also, because the RMS is 200.... does this mean i should power them with a 200 watt amp?? Will i t blow them if i run 400 or more watts to them? Can someone give me amp ideas please. I am a car stereo newbie, if you can't tell already.

Response appreciated!

the rms power is what matters... feed them 200 rms EACH = 400 total. they'll probably sound fine.... my girlfriend has two 250 watt subs that are only getting 220 watts of power each and her car sounds fine, my old man has just one 250 watt sub off of 215 watts and it fills the whole cabin of an X cab pickup. and dude, you can't beat free!

now what you NEED to find otu is the coil rating of the subwoofers. if you dont know how many ohms they are, then unscrew one of them and disconnect it.. then look to see if it has ONE PAIR or TWO PAIR of positive/negative wire hookups on each sub (both subs will the be same so you only need to play aroudn with one of them.

If the impedance / ohms / resistance (all the same thing, but it may be labeled as any of those) is not listed on the subwoofers, then you need to beg/borrow/steal a cheapo 10 dollar digital multimeter from radio shack... set it to resistance and then check the positive/negative terminals... it'll eitehr say 4 or 8 (note - you MUST disconnect the wires of the subwoofer before you do this -- DO NOT leave it hooked up to the other sub).

your amp choices are going to depend on whether it is dual 4 ohm, dual 8 ohm, single 4 ohm, or single 8 ohm coil.

once you post that, any of us can hit you up with a load of amp suggestions.

Thanks dodge, you are a really helpfull guy, but i still need help.

Both subs are 8 OHMS and when i unscrewed one, it only had two cords going into the back... i guess thats one positive and one negative. Can you give me some amp suggestions? ive heard all these things about bridging and power and channels and all sorts of stuff.... please help lol. My amp will be used for the subs only, i have my reciever powering the co-axs in the doors. Thanks!!!

I think my brother might have those subs
from what you posted they sound the same
if you want it loud, these arent the ones to go with
but theyre awesome in his truck
    they really sound good
but if you want to crank it
    you need bigger subs
not necessarily bigger as in 12s or 15s
bigger as in how many watts they can handle
if you want to go shopping for amps look for ones that say 200watts x 2
    or 400 watts by one
go to www.crutchfield.com click on amplifiers or type amplifiers into the search box
they probably have the biggest selection on the internet
theyre customer service number is on the website
you can call them whether you have bought from them or not
they know what theyre talking about
    its 24 hr service too
im sure dodge will have a list of amps on here you can chose from by thursday
    one more thing
stay away from brands like pyle, pyramid, and sony(even sony xplod)

haha -- no lists from me today -- just one amp... and i'll stand by it to my death... mtx 302 / 8302.

my girl has two 6000's (250 rms) that are 8 ohms single coil, so they're pretty close to what you've got... the mtx 302 / mtx 8302 will do 445 x 1 into 4 ohms... two 8 ohms subs in parallel = 4 ohms.

i think that is the best amp to go with for your application... its got all the toys you'll need liek an adjustable crossover as well as a bass boost, and its built like a friggin tank.

last check.. on ebay they're like 200 bucks.. on crutchfield.com they're like 225 or 275 or something like that on sale because they're being discontinued.

get it before they're gone, its worth every penny... they've made that amp in one form or another for like 10 friggin years... Blue Thunder Pro 150.2 / Thunder 302 / THunder 8302.. all the same kick **** rock solid amp.

SEE MY NEXT POST- I FORGOT THE XFIRE AND THE JBL NEED 2OHM AND 1OHM LOADS... SO THEY BE OUT...

*speaking to god* -- "they're patronizing me lord, they are, i swear"...

regarding "whats an ohm" - i just remembered something... u might remember it thomas but i'm not sure -- like 3 mos ago in CA chat, dude comes in and goes, "I've got no ohms." -- that's all I can think of .... "no ohms".

Last I checked, I think u, me, and cody were the new polk reps in this board.
